Can I claim dole if im on summer holdiays?

I've been in college for three years now one more to go. During the year i get the higher education grant that pays some of my rent. And until march last year when i was sacked, i worked every weekend and holiday i got. I got a summer job then last summer. but since then I couldnt find any work during college this year and also i had 38hrs of lectures/labs a week and didnt have the time. Ive been searching for a summer job now since the end of april with no luck!

I was listnening to the matt cooper show on today fm about 2 weeks ago and he had a man on who said students can claim dole during their summer break?

Is this true?

When it comes to work and jobseekers benefit, 2007 is the year they look at for your stamps paid. The only way to know for certain if you are entitled to anything is to go into your local office to make a claim and see what they say.

Is it no illegal to claim the dole while you are at college ?

If you declare everything to them truthfully and they decide that they're going to pay you, then you've done your part.

I think most students are not entitled to jobseeker's payments over the summer. There are exceptions, although I'd say relatively few.

As Xiney said, its up to the Deciding Officer to make the decision. If you tell them everything about your situation, and the officer taking your claim should ask anyway, you have done your part, and you never know your luck I suppose.
