I am told avon mosturiser is very good. No seriously I have heard from a few people that the Royal marines use it when they are in Scotland.

Deet is the regularly used repellant. You will get it in outdoor shops like Great outdoors. But it is pretty unpleasant stuff.

You can also switch to tea tree oil soap which you can get in the body shop.

Strangely the world of insect repellent seems to involve going into women's shops.

I'd suggest talking to a botanist on this one- if you've large quantities in mind. There are several natural tree saps which seem to attract insects- the sap of white deal, for example. Someone I know tried to make a creosote/sap mix for fencing- I'm not sure how it turned out though.
