Is anyone else getting dns errors, problems with friends, sending messages etc.

I recently bought burnout and didnt have any problems up until i played this/installed its updates. tried setting the dns to an open dns, solved a problem with the initial loadup browser screen in burnout but now back to the same problems again. ps3 keeps disconnecting from network and have to reset the router to get it to connect again.

Burnout cannot cause DNS issues on your internet connection. Please be specific about your setup.

You with eircom, by any chance?

    What is your internet provider?
Make and Model of your Internet Modem / Router?
What is your PS3 NAT type? [You shouldn't have any problems if NAT2]

Chorus Broadband - 10MB (cant think of modem at present)
    Belkin Wireless G Router
Ps3, Wii, Laptop & 2 PCs on network
MAC addresses set for all through router
    NAT type 2
Changed to static ip for PS3 and added to DMZ last night but have not played anything since
    Still NAT type 2

No Issues with PCs on LAN
Once PS3 causes issue with wireless, connection drops for laptop until router is restarted

no problems whatsoever with setup before Burnout / related updates installed. Problems since and only when playing Burnout. No problems when playing any other games, Killzone, LBP, etc etc etc

Will check game at lunch time to see if still happening since last night's change but open to suggestions

Should be no need to put it in DMZ
    Still NAT type 2
You possibly did it wrong. I believe that DMZ is NAT 1 [Direct internet connection, as such. I stand to be corrected]
Once PS3 causes issue with wireless, connection drops for laptop until router is restarted
This maybe what you are seeing but are you SURE that the PS3 caused it? Are there any other wifi- points close to you, especially on the same channel?
no problems whatsoever with setup before Burnout / related updates installed. Problems since and only when playing Burnout.
What are these related updates? Burnout updates or Firmware updates. what firmware are you running on PS3. If they are burnout updates, they are irrelevant.
Will check game at lunch time to see if still happening since last night's change but open to suggestions
If you are going to try this can you ALSO try something else? Plug the PS3 directly into the UPC modem. Disconnect your Belkin router. You may need to restart the UPC Modem. See if this works. This will give you a direct connection to the internet and take EVERYTHING else out of the equation.

If that test works, then it;s something on your network.
If that test doesn't work, it's UPC problem.

    Let us know.

come to think of it whenever i had a disconnection problem before i just flicked the power switch to attic, where the modem and router are, on and off. this always solved it. have had the pc up there on as server so didnt do it this time and just restarted the router. might be that upc have updated the modem remotely (?) and thats where the problem lies. will restart that too.
the updates were all burnout related, about 500mb of them. up to version 1.8.
firmware is up to latest, 2.7...something.
i did find it unlikely that a game would be causing the problem but when everything else worked perfect before and any time i played it since the same problem occured, i pointed the finger at the latest addition. google doesnt help with other people getting the dns issues on burnout.
there is another wireless network 2 doors down so it might well be that they have changed their settings. will try another channel. does it matter which i should or shouldn't use?
will give it a go lunch time and see how it goes.

Doesn't matter what channel you use, once it's different to everyone else. Best to choose a channel furthest away from others. Netstumbler installed on a wifi pc or laptop will give you this information. Google it.

You you SURE it's a DNS issue? NAT would have no bearing on DNS. Firewall / IP Ports would, though.

Just re-read your original post. You are having two discreet issues.

    1. Burnout not working [online or offline / Are other games working as they did before Burnout was installed?]
    2. Network disconnects. You haven't directly mentioned if PS3 is on WIFI or Wired. Assuming WIFI. My previous post about wifi channels SHOULD resolve that. I assume you are using WPA or WPA2[preferred] and NOT WEP or NO security.

    WPA2 on Wifi
Burnout is working, plays fine, but it disconnects me from PSN when i play it or else will not let me send messages to other users. no other games causing this issue before or since.
back after lunch with more info

    ok update from lunch time

    restarted router and modem.

started up pc, laptop and ps3.
PC - wired connection - fine no problems with internet or home network
Laptop - wireless - fine until i started up burnout (just happened to be the game in ps3 drive), lost internet due to DNS error but home network still working fine
PS3 - wireless - fine until first startup of burnout online, got booted from game due to firewall settings. went into router settings, turned off DMZ and managed to connect to online game, drive around for a min or 2, send a test message to a friend and compare trophies.
checked out battlefield:bad company, connected to game, killed few people. no probs.
will need more time later to check out awkward games like gta or fifa with which i had to specifically open ports for previously.

Laptop still not connecting to internet however as of end of lunch. Its the OH's laptop so not sure what is installed on that til later tonight. Will try a wired connection on that to see if any improvement

checked surrounding wireless networks and there was an unsecured eircom with 1 bar in the area

im thinking it may be worth a call to UPC though to see if there are any issues on their side. (noticed the analog channels are bit hazy yday and today so maybe they are having trouble with their lines)

It's possible that it's a UPC issue but no way definite at the moment. The more we diagnose things on your side, the easier it will be talking to UPC [in that you will KNOW that your side is not at fault]

    What we know
    PC Wired : Fine
    Laptop Wireless : Not fine
PS3 wireless : Fine so far
WIFI access points : One more within range. Need to find out the channel. Use Netstumbler.

You can punch through pinholes to your firewall [www.portforward.com] without putting your unit on the DMZ. No need to DMZ if we configure your **** right :)

Bear with it, we WILl get it done. It may take a bit of time but when done, you should be up to or VERY close to 100%.

EDIT 1 : To take the wifi out of the equation, can you wire EVERYTHING to the router/ Lappy, PC and PS3. Move them all up to the attic for a night and test them all through, if you can. This will REALLY ease our choices moving forward.

EDIT 2 : Where are you based?

    in tipp

cant move all the stuff up but can swap the wired connection from pc to ps3. laptop obv isnt a problem.

will try out the laptop on its own later on to see if its just an overload on the connection with all of them running, and will check the wireless channel as per your link.

cheers for the help. to be honest im not even bothered with the dmz disabled if they all connect

well im back again and completely stumped, just played battlefield online for a full matches without any problem whatsoever. laptop connection stayed constant throughout, downloading 400mb of windows updates. started up burnout and the internet connection on the laptop dropped out again.

was still able to access the network however so turned off ps3 and restarted the router from the laptop. connection came back fine, proceeded to start up killzone and play for over an hour with the connection intact on laptop and ps3.

have found some info online about others having issues with this new 1.8 update. dont know how or why its causing it but it must be at this stage. to be honest i dont think i even care. gona get the last few trophies i can outa it and then fire it in the press. not worth the hassle of messing up whats working perfectly on all other games.
