So 2 glorified warm up games for the Super 8's, nothing at stake except some pride.

Hopefully Ireland rest the likes of Niall O Brien and Trent, give the fringe players a run, and then have the full team back for Thursday's Super 8 game against New Zealand. Hard to see past an Indian win here.

The other game could be a cracker if both teams open up and wallop it. I'm gonna go for a Sri Lanka win in that one

Do you think India would have the same idea, if at all, of resting key players?,

are they the type of team to do that,

in football is happens very often, that players get rested when they are not needed to win etc,

I'm still quite new to Cricket, and I would have thought Cricket to be less stressful on the body?,

then Trent isn't a spring chicken, still a great player :)...

20-20 isn't as taxing as a one day matches, where fast bowlers especially gets burned out quickly. But I would think India might let one or two new players out on to the pitch today - just to build up their experience and confidence.

I reckon Ireland will get a point out of today (looks like rain ALL day). Would be nice if some of the squad got a game, but looks doubtful. :(

crazy schedule. we play NZ tomorrow !

theres no carry over of points.
    send out the reserves.

I haven't seen a drop of rain in Nottingham yet, so heres hoping we get two good games.

It's disappointing that the points do not carry over as it does make for two pointless fixtuers today, but I would be amazed to see the reserves being sent out, with the exception of Gayle who is apparently carrying an injury.

Gayle is not playing due to injury. It has been a great start for Sri Lanka 67-0 after 6 overs.

The West Indies are screwed 75/4 as we speak. Mendis and Murali are going to cause a lot of damage in this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

    177/5, 20 overs.

They did well to lose by 15 runs against SL.

Indian captain said with the weather the way it is they wanted to know what they were aiming for which is fair enough. Potterfield didn't sound too bothered one way or the other to be honest.

Plenty of green, white and orange in the crowd :D

Fingers crossed for today, but its only really a warm up. Plenty of Green White and Orange cos both teams have those colours in their flag?

India or S. Africa to win the whole thing?

Obviously the Irish management read Boards...

Nicely bowled from singh but does he really have to wave him off? I hate that. Particularly when its a nothing game with nothing resting on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

    True, bit unnecessary alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

That runout is such a an amature mistake - anyone would know to push their bat into the crease first..! Come on now.!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

That run out was bad luck, but as the always cheerful Hussain says, bad running too.

O'Brien stumped someone up in the air earlier in tournament, so what goes around I suppose but still seems very harsh.

They are getting the duff performance out of the way before the super 8s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

India's class aside, this has been a hapless batting effort from Ireland, that last run out was a pathetic effort by West. We might just get up the 100.

100 should be okay. I would say 105

Solid knock from White. 30 off 25 balls, one good thing from today might be him finding some form

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭giddyup

Anyone got a working stream? I can't even get Radio 5 here so it's killing me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

112 for 8 off their 18 overs. The bowlers will need to be special, no Trent Johnson, I can't see us winning this.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Have you tried justin.tv, they have a few supposed links. I cant try them as my connection is woefully inadequate, but there are 4 or 5 to choose from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

112 is a more than respectable total considering the quick loss of wickets for very little runs, and one of our big hitters not playing. Definitely havent embarressed ourselves

    This isnt gonna last long....

India make it with 15 balls to spare. A decent performance by the Irish all things considered, and plenty to improve on for tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

While Ireland can say major players was not in, Indians did try some 'training' on the last three overs too - If it wasn't for that, Irish total would have been close to 80.

Still, I can't see what too India so long to score the lot. Decent effort from the Irish team - def no embarrassment from such a fresh team - well done!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

It was just about acceptable from the Irish, I doubt the Indians were killing themselves.
