After watching the Junior World Cup match between Ireland and NZ, I was wondering if the Ruddock brothers are locked into an Irish jersey now.

After the way both of those guys played today, I wouldnt like to see either to go over to their spiritual homeland :D

    Whats the story with them?

Underage caps don't tie you to anything, only full caps (obviously), 'A' caps and 7's caps do. Both are going to be at Leinster next season which I hope indicates they want to play for Ireland.

Now the race is on till the 6N A games to see whether ourselves or Wales will cap them at A level and keep them for themselves.

I'm pretty sure they're both reasonably committed to Ireland. The Ospreys weren't too keen on loosing one of them (can't remember which) but the fact they've gone to Leinster indicate they wanna play in the Irish system. Their dad has said as much I think.

Well they've both been signed by Leinster. And as far as I know they're dad and the WRU have bad blood between them.

Even so, I think it's genuinely a 50-50. They're half Welsh half Irish. I'd hope that whatever happens is best for them tbh.

Ah, I'd say it's fairly in the bag that they're going to play for Ireland.

They've chosen Ireland over Wales all the way through underage level, they've left Wales to come and play their rugby at Leinster, there's every signal of intent there that they're committed to Ireland.

I haven't seen a big amount of them, but from what I've read about them from Ospreys people and on various boards they are extremely highly rated and it was a bit of a coo getting them here, Ospreys see it as a big loss of young talent.

Both seem to abrasive forwards which is no bad thing and a good backbone to Leinster academy and it would have to be said good prospects in Irish rugby.

    Rhys captained wales u-16s

But looking at his face (passion and desire) when he was singing Irelands call this morning, he's made his mind up.

His performance was the exclamation point

A certain Scott Johnson is the new coach of the Ospreys. May or not be the reasoning why the Ruddocks arriving to Leinster.

Both look good players imo. Certaintly Rhys, young as he is on the 20s is definatly going places. I don't see how they would play for Wales now. They've pretty much marked their cards now.

No, its not "in the bag" at all. They're Welsh and until they play Sevens or 'A' level for Ireland, nothing is guaranteed.
    Never hear of Clyde Rathbone??

Their mum is Irish She is a Dub, Plus The terms on Which Mike Ruddock left WRU was not really the best way to leave and i dont blame the guy for what ever way he feels about WRU!

Did he do an EOS to Ruddock's Gatland?

    You think  !

Scott Johnson may have benefitted from Ruddock's back-stabbing, but I always thought that Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas' hand was on the handle. Remember that infamous Scrum V interview, and it's aftermath ? Michael Owen's career seemed to go south after that too, though that may have been collateral damage.

God damn it, I fcuking confused my there their and they'res. And yeah, the whole Ruddock thingy seems a bit silly looking back at it.

Sure isn't Keith Woods often blamed for the Gatland thing as well as EOS.

It's a messy situation, but suggests the lads are pondering Irishnessness.

    The next Easterbys? ^^
