What are the public transport options if any? And what would the journey be like by car at peak times?

Get the 2 or 3 bus to Pearse Street and it's a 10/15 minute walk. You could also use a Transfer 90 ticket and get off the bus on Pearse Street and change to a 50/56A/77/77A to bring you to Christchurch.

The return journey would involve getting a bus from Chriustchurch to the City Centre and switching to the 2 or 3 bus to bring you back to Sandymount.

It should be a straightforward journey.

No brainer really, 15 minute cycle.

At least half an hour in a car and €2.70 an hour to park the thing.

Yup, agreee 100%. Did it for 2 years (well to Irishtown) and the bike was by far the best way to go.
