Does anyone know the difference between Calvepen and clavamel?
I know they are both penicillin based, but what's the difference? And if I've been prescribed Augmentin, why was I given Clavamel tablets?
I've a strep sore throat (in agony) and feel like I'm on a cocktail of drugs. The doc said the tablets would take about 48hrs to kick in, but oh my god I wish they'd hurry up!!!Even my wisdom teeth are aching with the pain.:(

I'm not 100% sure this doesn't constitute advice! Anyway Calvepen is plain penicillin on it's own with nothing else in it.

Augmentin and Clavamel are the same thing - co-amoxiclav - amoxicillin in combination with something to help protect against resistance.

As for why you got clavamel instead of augmentin it may have been all the pharmacy had in stock or they may have wanted to give you the cheaper alternative or some other reason. It is usual practice to ask first though before switching

Clavamel is the same as augmentin: different manufacturer.

    Thanks!
No I'm pretty sure it doesn't constitute advice.I know what's wrong with me, have been to a doc and got a prescription. Which is thankfully beginning to work. It's more for my own curiousity - I was looking at the prescription and looking at the box of tablets and wondering what was going on.....
