I'm in the process of insuring a car I recently bought and need to find if the engine is 16v or not...

I don't have the log book back yet and there's no clear indication on the car itself... it's a 01 Punto ELX and I think it's 16v but how can I find out for sure?

I don't think it will make any difference to my insurance cost but I would like to have all the details spot on if possible

    Thanks.

What other details would I be able to give you? It is a 1.2 (or 1242cc to be precise) but I don't think that will narrow it down much.

Turns out it's 8v - found the engine ID number and checked it against the list hidden in the manual.

    Thanks for your help.

The MkII Punto ELX were all 8v in Ireland. The MkII 16v was badged HLX in 5 door or Sporting in 3door. The MkI Punto ELX was initially a 75bhp 8v 3 and 5 door which was replaced by the 85bhp 16v 5 door only in later production.
