Paying own tax for combined Self-Employment & PAYE

Hi everyone - my apologies if this has already been covered to death somewhere here, but am mightily confused and need help.
I have been self-employed since 2003, and each year always got an accountant to do my books / revenue payments etc.
In June 2008 i took part-time PAYE employment and opted to have no tax deducted from my wages as i would pay my own tax (on both PAYE & S.E. income). I opted last year to complete my own Pay & File (ie not use an accountant), and I think I paid enough money in October 2008 to cover my full Tax Bill for 2008, based on my projected earnings to December 2008. I have received a receipt from the Revenue for what I paid them in October 2008, but still no Notice of Assessment for 2008, despite a few phone calls to them. I want to apply for a mortgage and need to show earnings etc for 2008, hence my urgency on this.. and I fear I may have worked my tax bill out wrong and perhaps have underestimated it - what is the tax due on a Net Income €30,000 for example (i.e. gross income less allowable expenses)? I do not claim any allowances (I was never advised i could do so by the accountant so dont assume I'm entitled to any)...I would appreciate anyone's advise here, many thanks...

    hi sunnygirl,
u should register for the revenue online service. it won't give you a breakdown of your assessment but you can check where any submitted monies have been allocated. e.g. what you would've paid in october 08 should be partially apportioned to 2007 liability, and partially to 2008 as a preliminary tax payment. check out www.ros.ie to register. it will prob take about a week to register as it a three step process.

As regards your assessment i'm sure that you can email revenue and ask them to chase it up. have a look on www.revenue.ie to see if there is an email address for your tax district. I think usually they are prompt in replying to emails.

    Hi OP,

Did you actually file your Form 11 for 2008?

Hi Sand Wedge - yup I filled in, and returned, Form 11 (for final 2008 figures) in February this year (anticpating getting it all sorted out early)... as I prefer to be 'ahead' of myself - and pay things off early instead of waiting until the October Deadlines. I know to many people the Form 11 is self-explanatory, I found it a bit confusing!

Hi Bishops Palace - I am registered for for both PAYE self-service and ROS online (which i just couldnt fathom or get anywhere with)... I will email them now as you suggested and see what happens - thanks for your advice

Did you or didnt you file your Form 11 online? A Notice of Assessment generally issues within a couple of days if done online. If you posted it, it could very well be lost.

There is what is known as a contact locator on the Revenue website, where you enter in your PPSN and they will tell you the Revenue office that is dealing with your tax affairs.

I filled in the techno-phobe paper-copy Form 11 from the Revenue Office, and posted it in. They received it in March, but there is a hold up apparently. So much for me getting the stuff in early
I'll keep at them.... thanks for your help everyone..
