I've been with them for the past two years because they have been far cheaper than anywhere else. Thankfully I haven't made any claim but what I can see from my insurance policy is that they are more like brokers as my policy is with Axa.

You're right - Cornmarket are brokers - they don't insure cars themselves - they re-sell insurance for insurance companies. So the ability or willingness to pay claims will be largely down to the insurance company that Cornmarket place you with.

Ongoing customer service such as answering your queries, temporary substitutions etc., is usually the broker's job.

    Moved to motors.

OP, you'll probably get more opinions here, if you or the motors mods want to move it back, just let me know :)

    Fixed.

The Cornmaket Teachers Scheme is with RSA. The policy is pretty good- it has breakdown cover and free windscreen replacement without affecting your NCB, and from what I remember the excess isn't huge either.
Also, RSA are usually decent enough to deal with if you have the misfortune to have a claim- they give you a car while yours is off the road and usually get things settled up quickly.

Invalid fix. I chose my words carefully. A larger broker may exert influence over an insurance company on a marginal claim, if it wants to.

Yes. No broker pays the actual claim however.

Correct. The insurance company pays out claims.

Am I right in thinking that certain insurance companies or offering cheaper rates to teachers ? doesn't sound fair

Just a group buy scheme with the trade union. Nothing exciting. Actually Cornmarket are accused of ripping off lots of teachers with their AVC schemes.

As maidhc says, group discounts on anything aren't new. It's marketing.

Sometimes insurance companies can also look at their book of business and if they find that a particular profession has a consistently low claims history they may offer discounts. Don't know if that applies here though.

Considering how Cornmarket have dealt with teachers pensions in the past (As detailed on Prime Time a few months ago), I would be reluctant to trust you are getting a good deal. Make sure you check other price comparison sites as well before you commit to their quote.

These guys are cheating, do you know when we apply for a quote we will get a cheaper quote other than any one, but we go for a claim they have the very high excess amount(eg 500) other than else. first time we got may be 50 euro less, but later any thing happened they will charge high amount
