Good make-up for African skin

    Hi,

I have the traditional Irish blue/white skin, but my sister is from Kenya. She is only 11, but is starting to experiment with make-up. Problem is, none of my tinted moisturizer matches her skin type. Can anyone recommend a brand that would be a better match for her? It doesn't have to be an exact match, she's only starting to mess with make-up, but I wear porcelain make-up which is no good for her. If it was a high street brand that would be great.

    Thanks :D

She's eleven. I was wearing make-up when I was eleven. It's not for everyday. But when I was eleven if I was going out for a family meal my Mum would put a tiny bit of make-up on me to make me feel grown up. As she is the only one with dark skin in our family we can't lend her a tiny bit of anything. I think that is fairly normal.

The OP wants a make up recommendation, not opinions on whether 11 is too young for make up. Stick with the topic at hand please. Thank you.

Cover girl did a darker skin range but are Cover girl in Ireland anymore? I never see them now.

I'd say go in to BT and ask them what brands do make up for darker skin, they are out there definitely.

MAC would be quite popular with people with darker skin. Most use Studio Fix Powder foundation as their type of skin tends to be oily.

They do a very lightweight foundation, same coverage as a tinted moisturiser but not a moisturiser... ah! just looked on website for the name and they don't do it any more. Maybe go for Face & Body then. Only thing, the bottle is huge and if she is only using it for special occasions it might be too much!

Most high street brands, say like what you get in Boots don't tend to do darker shades.

I know Bobbi Brown do dark shades and there is a brand in debenhams especially for dark skins - think it may be fashion fair. Clerys on O Connell Street always have iman cosmetics in the bargain bin - you may get lucky there.

Maybelline also do a dream matte mouse in a shade called caramel for dark skins.

I googled there and found a brand called sleek which is stocked in superdrug which may suit.

Good luck with your search :)

This may be a bit expensive for an 11 year old - but Illmasqua have the finest range of foundation colours I've ever seen. From pure white onwards. Here is some of the range: http://www.illamasqua.com/store/category/face/light_liquid_foundation/ You can purchase in BT2, Grafton St. or cheaper online.

How about using a mineral make up? For an 11year old it shouldnt do any damage cos i cant imagine a 11yr old being careful about how you remove it. Alot of the brands now do a darker range -

There's a brand called Fashion Fair that do make up for black skin. Debenhams used to stock it.

I'm the same, that really pale white/blue skin. Lots of Irish people are like that.
