What's covered in your Warranty?

Ok Sorry if this is in the wrong place, if so feel free to move....

Here's my problem the upholstery in the back rest of the drivers seat has ripped. On closer inspection it appears that the foam padding underneath it has also ripped. The padding on the opposite side of the back rest has also ripped but the upholstery hasn't ripped. It also feel like when sitting in it that the padding has also slipped as there seems to be no support in the lower part of the back rest.

The car is only 1.5 years old. Is the upholstery covered by the Warranty?

"1/5 years old" meaning a few months? I doubt they'd be able to claim its wear and tear after that long; its clearly a manufacturing fault.

Sorry I meant 1.5years old... I'd very much doubt it's wear & tear, brake pads, window wipers is classed as wear & tear. I've had other cars before longer and the upholstery never ripped I've been in cars that were 10 years old and the upholstery or padding never ripped.

What type of car is it? Whats the mileage?

I reckon you would have a good case. I know of people that had this done in the past (new-ish low mileage cars)

I'd agree with what most of the previous posts said that its a wear and tear item BUT at the same time I'd say if you go back to the dealer and protest enough you'll get it covered ( excuse the pun :D ).

ok Rang the dealership and they want to take photo's and send them to Mitsubishi.

I'm still not buying the 'wear & tear' excuse after only having the car 1.5 yrs it's only 1.5yrs old I bought it NEW in Jan 08 with no previous owners.

    I'll keep you posted

As said don't take no for an answer.

29k km is nothing. May be a manufacturing fault. Is it along a seem? (or is it seam? can't be arsed checking my sewing book...)

Going to hijack this thread. Grabbed a 2002 5 series from a dealer a while back. They gave me a 6 month warranty on her. The dash display has the infamous LCD error (pixels not showing).

Should I contacted them about this under the warranty or would it likely not be covered?

Depends what warranty you were given. Most garages will only offer an engine and gearbox warranty which would not cover the LCD. The thing to do is ring them and see if they will fix it for you.

I'd say you're gonna have less chance of getting somewhere but like everything if you keep banging then you never know what you'll get.

OP, take pics and post them here if you can, I'd be interested in seeing what you're experiencing.

I don't know about Mitsubishi but I know of cases where BMW have replaced leather that was only slightly scuffed from side bolsters under warranty due to 'Premature wear' after about 1 year/ 15k miles.

In your case it sounds like that this is not even wear and tear let alone premature wear and tear. Badly positioned foam or a defect or rip in it has caused lack of support and subsequently the upholstery has ripped. Car seats should last the lifetime of the car. Definitely a warranty claim.

It wasn't specified (this can be a good and a bad thing :P ).

It's only 400/500 euro to fix if I recall so it's not the end of the world, but I'll call em up and see what they can do anyway.Thanks.

Just back from the dealership, I was all set for a fight and he said "yeap that's covered under the warranty, it's also the second colt with the same problem in the same place".

and I was so looking forward to having an arguement I feel so deflated now :(

    Thanks everyone :D

I know its been a few months since this thread was opened and you've been sorted but I'm new to the forum. Can I just ask why you were looking forward to an argument? That seems a little ridiculous to me or should I say it seems a bit Irish. The dealer was trying to help you in the first place, even if they did not cover it under warranty, you'd have more chance of them doing something out of goodwill if you're a nice customer or a loyal customer.

Please read the charter at the top of the page and don't resurrect old threads, thanks.
