Hard Drive Backup?

Just wondering if anybody has any good recommendations for backing up a hard drive. Have my music collection on one external drive, want to back this up on to another external hard drive.

It's a western digital 1TB, checked out the backup software that came with it but it seems to make an image of the drive. Would kinda prefer if the software made a copy of the data rather than an image. Does that makse sense?

Also tried norton ghost before but that was the same. Don't want to go down road of just copying data over every month or so cos that would just take ages :(

So, any ideas? I tried search btw but didn't see any other responses like this!

    http://allwaysync.com/

Sync the data so only changed data is copied across.
never had to use myself - got a server myself :D

    Look into Robocopy from Microsoft.

Its a really cool program for copying files etc. with loads of options.

What you can do is make a simple batch file to copy the contents of one drive to the other. Then run this whenever you want to back it up.

Be wary of the drive letters changing on the external drives each time they are plugged in. I think letters stick with each drive after they are plugged in for the first time but its worth keeping an eye on.!

Robocopy or Rsync are the two best tools for doing this.

I use both to migrate ~2TB from a SAN to a external DR site every night.
