My friend Bob over in the DTO has mailed me about National Bike Week next week.

"The main Dublin events are a Family Bike Day in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 14th June and the Dublin City Cycle at 7pm on Wednesday 17th June (which is National Bike To Work Day). Details for everything can be found at www.bikeweek.ie."

There are a bunch of things on - check out the site, though be warned that the first thing you'll see is a jpeg of Noel Dempsey,

Plenty of competitions to win bikes too. Not only on their website, but on the radio too. As mentioned here I was lucky enough to win a bike last Friday. Definitely worth entering the competitions.

That would be funny if it wasn't true.

Anyway, I will bring the daughter along to this on her pink SS.
She will be wearing my WW200 medal.
She thinks I won the race:D. If anyone meets us - I won the race ok!!!!

(The race to get up the hill the slowest, with most sweat accumulated).

No problem, only rflynnr's kids think *he* won, so you'd better stay out of each other's way...:pac:

That or resort to the "shure aren't we all winners?" line.

don't be too hard on us bike transporters.

I want to bring the kids and as much and all as I'd like to, I don't think I'll be able to get them to cycle the 45k from our front door to the Park.

I'd like to make them do it (it'd be good for them) but the bloody social workers warned me about doing it again :)

I'm actually only driving as far as my parents and we're going to cycle from there.

The last time I went out for a spin with the kids before I got the trailer, I was rocking the Pashley Princess with the 2 yr old on the rear seat and the 3yr old on his own bike.

The 3 year old got tired on the way back, so I put his bike in the front basket, and him on my shoulders.

Fortunately this was only for a mile, but I got some funny old looks. None of us were wearing helmets

So yes, a car is sometimes useful. :)

No helmet!!!! For shame, you neglectful person!:)

Unfortunately my two are just a bit too old to go on the cross bar and a bit too young to do more than about 25km.

It's not also helped by the fact that they don't like road bikes and have a preference for MTBs.

Last time when I was changing their bikes and suggested something a bit more road friendly, the youngest was adamant he didn't want a road bike:-

    "they're gay," he protested!

So they remain on the mud pluggers!

I'll be heading down in the car also. I'm not in the mood for listening to my 5 & 7 year olds complaining about the cycle from Ratoath to The Phoenix Park.

You can't use a road bike to jump off a bit of plywood resting on two concrete blocks. Isn't that what being a young cyclist is all about? :)

it is indeed......and cycling through puddles rather than around them.........bunny hopping.........riding off the biggest kerb you can find.........riding up the biggest kerb you can find.........street racing around the block............wheelies...........riding with no hands.........riding up to the hubs in mud.......skids........etc......etc...

hopefully they'll come around - I have grand notions about heading off on long father / son spins!
