Futurama is back! Comedy Central orders a new season...

Excellent news IMO at least - Comedy Central has given a 13 episode season order for "Futurama", brand new episodes, not the season made up of the 4 straight-to-DVD movies:

And even though the movies were not Futurama's best moments (though I did enjoy the 1st and 4th ones quite a bit), a return to "proper" weekly episodes is great and any new Futurama is better than no Futurama :).

I'm of two minds about this. On the one hand it's great to be getting new Futurama. But on the other hand, they screwed up the films really badly and I really don't want them to do the same with this and turn it into another Simpsons. I'd kind of rather they just left it.

But I suppose all we can do is hope for the best.

The films varied in quality, but I'll admit none of them touched Futurama at it's best (and not even at its average really). However, one of the faults was stretching story material too much - the regular 20 minute block should work better.

I liked Futurama when it was originally on.. but only really developed a love for it when I used to catch early morning repeats. Probably seen half of the entire series in various episodes.

I bought the complete boxset about 2 years back and only ever watched season 1. Really should go back and finish it.

Never watched any of the movies either.. but have heard horrible things.

I wonder wil it act like the films never happened?

I'd like if it would ignore the films and in regard to them i'm willing to give the team a pass,it was always going to hard to stretch futurama to feature lenght and also having to make it so it could be cut up into episodes. This new season will be the true test of quality

Given that the films are more or less self-contained stories, they are pretty easy to ignore so I can see them doing that. Though I'm sure they will spend a couple of minutes to tie in the ending of the 4th film with whatever they have in mind for the start of the new season. And yes, the movies were not the finest moments but like others here said, I think the 20-25 minute format may in fact work in their favor.

And TBH, Futurama at its' worst is still better than a lot of other stuff - the only new animated shows this year were "Sit Down, Shut Up" on FOX and "The Goode Family" on ABC and both hit the skids pretty fast...

Seems Comedy Central is placing a lot of faith in Futurama already... They've increased the 13 episode order to 26 already:

Now to see if they can get back to the glory days...

    Thread Title fail.

    "I have Good News, Everyone!"

by the way you fudged the number of ordered episodes: it stands at 26.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty happy with this news. Yes, the films weren't their best work (though the fourth was close to classic Futurama I thought), but the series is basically my favourite thing to ever hit television so I am more than happy to give them a shot to return to their best arena - that of 22 minutes epsiodes (22 minutes episodes that make you love dogs only to be heartbroken at the end...bastards).

No, I didn't... The original thread was posted on Monday, when only 13 episodes were rumored. As soon as 26 were confirmed, I posted that too:
