Slow operation of PC

My PC is slow to carry out commands: text does not immediately appear when typed, the mouse icon remains at the 'hand' symbol for several seconds before appearing as an 'arrow' symbol and there's up to a ten second delay when switching tabs.

I've carried out a comprehensive cirus/spyware/malware check and cleared the cache. Does anyone know what it might be?

    Thanks in advance.

How old is the PC? what are the specs? What are you running? If its really not malware, then low memory is the next offender.

    Would you consider reformatting?

This has just started happening in the last day or two. Haven't installed any new hardware in that time. I've checked Task Manager and Firefox is using the most memory at 350- 400, 000K.

    Perhaps try a different browser.

how much memory is in the PC?
which operating sytem are you using?
are you low on hard-drive space?
any 'virtual memory' errors coming up?

sometimes you needs to run a combination of spyware programs to be sure your PC is clean, ie. Spybot Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes and Spyware Doctor I find to be the best.

From what you describe it sounds like just your web browser is slow. When you say "commands" what do you mean? How quick is the start menu to open up, or windows explorer?

If it is firefox and it is using up 400K of memory have you recently either installed alot of plugins or perhaps a dodgy one that is causing a memory leak?
