Anyone have any information on such courses. I know normally people do them after swimming over a few years but I have let my qualification lapse and am trying to get it back ASAP. Any info would be great. Thanks

What certs are you looking to renew - Becah Lifeguard and Pool lifeguard?

You're probabaly going to have to go the commercial route - as most of the 2 hour a week community style course are wrapped up for the summer.

You should eb able to google a few course providers - but I cannot vouch for the quality of these operators.

Yeah thought as much. I'm looking to renew the pool lifeguard and then to train myself for the beach. I checked out some of the private guys on the lifesaving site but EUR 450 seems a bit steep to me - considering no body seems sure about the quality. Fitness wise I think OK its just the tech stuff CPR etc that seems to change every year so thats what I need to brush up on.

Well - for the commercial courses teachers need to be qualified instructors and students do need to be passed by an examiner from the IWSA or RLSS. So it's not like they can just print your certs.

The main attendance for weekly courses are secondary and third level students - so running courses during the summer holidays doesn't make sense. Besides - the instructors (often students themselves) are voluntary so they'll be off on holidays or enjoying their summer.

Since you're already up to pool lifeguard standard - for you to get your beach lifeguard cert on one of the weekly classes you'd be looking at a few months attendance - since they're only 2 hours a week. Most classes won't start up till September - most beach lifeguards certs won't start till early next year as they finish with a couple of days beach training and one section of the exam requires a day at the beach, usually around May.

The horse has bolted on the local authority jobs - applications for most of them needed to be in by the end of March. But if there is a job going that requires the qualification the only way you're going to get it quick is by shelling out.
