Hi, we are thinking of taking in a Spanish student for 10 weeks in the Autumn, for which we receive a weekly "payment" towards accommodation, food, entertainment costs, etc...Does anyone know if this kind of payment is tax-free? Do we need to declare it and then claim back? Will we need to provide receipts etc? (even though I ask this, I already know that this is a ridiculous question, as we are hardly going to be buying the student separate food and cooking for them separately, ie their costs will be "lost" within the usual family costs as far as receipts are concerned)

    any information/suggestions?

    thanks

As long as the gross rent does not exceed €10,000 per annum (including amounts for food, laundry etc) you do not have to declare it and it is tax free.
