The admin of my site has added me so that I can view the traffic etc to my site using my gmail account address. But when I login there are no stats visible as if the site is only up today. However, I know that for sure there are stats because he showed them to me at his office.
    What am I doing wrong?

You need to confirm that your tracking code has been added correctly. Ask your admin to confirm that it has been added correctly and is actively collecting data.

Thanks gypsy777, I gather the tracking code was added because I saw the results on their PC. He had added my email address but no profiles.
    *Granting profile access*

To allow access to another user, follow the instructions below. Please note that additional users will need to create a free Google Account <http://www.google.com/accounts> in order to be granted access.

    1. Click *User Manager*.
    2. Click *Add*.
    3. Enter the user's email address, last name, and first name.
    4. Select the *User Type* for this user: *View reports only*, or
*Account Administrator*, which allows the user to edit account
    settings.
    5. If you selected *View reports only*, select the profiles to which
    this user should have access
(note that Account Admins have access
to all profiles). Reports for profiles that are not selected will
not be available to this user.
    6. Click *Add* to move these profiles into the /Selected Website
    Profiles/ list.
    7. Click *Finish* to create the new user.
