Was weird yesterday. The course was busy ahead of us. Ridiculously packed behind us (womens society), but we had a nice casual round. Nobody behind us and not a single wait on a tee box. Round took about 3hrs 45min.

Greens are a bit better, but still slow.

heard that from a few members that the greens are not up to speed at all at all

Ya, which is quite annoying as they used to be up there with the best in Cork.
I don't know enough about green keeping to know what the problem is.
The bunkers are pretty poor as well.

i'm intersted to see if posters here have netted a hole-in-one
some people are unlucky enough to go thru a whole golf lifetime without sinking one off the tee
personally i think its only a matter of time
    normally when i'm playing a par 3 i take 2 tee-shots to give myself a fighting chance

Glad I read past your subject line, I assumed you got a hole in one of your Ian Poulter armbands, now that would be a real trajedy!

So was this your foam filled driver you hit??

2 Tee-shots, thats the funniest thing I've heard in a while.

    *** On day of comp****

Winner - "Lads I could have lost easily"
    Lads - "How Come?"
Winner - "Well Conno shot a round of 68"
Lads - "No way, how come you won then, you must have been lower than that?"
    Winner - "Nope, shot a 74"
Lads - "Then how come you won"
Winner - "Cos conno has 20 Billions shots off each tee" :D

Had a hole in one on the 17th in Powerscourt. Invitation 4 Ball, played with 3 members and saw it all the way as it is an elevated tee-box down to the green, 194 yards on the day. Got a beautiful Waterford Glass trophy in the shape of figure of one. Went down the shaft on a five wood due to being straight into the wind.

Got one years ago in Mahon in Cork on the 6th - (wedge) a short 100yards or so par three. In the same round hit the pin on the 7th - (3 wood) a longish par three - missed the birdie putt though.

To be honest none of this matters because I was on my own having a practise game, bummer - nobody else saw it!!!!! But it's true, honest :)

I've canned irons and wedges before but never from the tee of a par 3. Well, I sorta had one - during the winter on a temporary Par 3, that was actually on a Par 4 but a temporary tee-box half way up the fairway and a temporary green, short of the real green was in place to give us some kind of golf during the frost.

    worst. hole-in-one. ever.

Only ever recorded one ace and that was from the old 4th tee box in Lucan (the one on the far side of the road) to the short green. Only a flick of a PW but will live long in the memory!!

I already posted in the Eagle thread but this is obviously more suitable. Got one last Friday in Dublin City, wasn't in a comp though and I didn't see it go in, there's a bunker protecting the front. The lad on the 18th shouted back, "it's in the hole".......great buzz and a moment I'll remember for a long time, especially since my mate nearly took my hand off with high 5!

You're a gas man Conno, your posts are very well thought out...

Didn't involve me but i'll tell this one anyway...

There was a decent number of guys used to get together every friday night for a bit of a sweep at my old club.

The par 3 2nd on the course is uphill so you can't see the bottom of the flag. One of the lads hit his tee-shot onto the green, and it ran inches past the hole, but over the back. His mate was playing in the group in front and had been standing on the 3rd tee and watched the shot run off the green. As the group behind made their way up the steep hill, he ran across and grabbed the ball and stuck it in the hole before scuttling off up the third laughing.

When they reached the third green, another par 3, they heard the shouting from the guy who had found his ball in the hole. I was out a couple of holes ahead so didn't know anything til we got back in, but, anyway...

They waited until the guy was back in the clubhouse and had bought everyone (about 15 people) a round of drinks before they told him. He was absolutely devastated... very cruel, but very funny!!!

someone got a hole in 1 on sunday at my local course (newcastle) england.the best thing about it its a par 4 but not the longest of par 4's,also the front of green has a sizable bunker,by all accounts his shot bounced over the bunker ran on the green and in.

did you give it the full ten seconds permitted in the rules to drop into the cup? Must've been agonizing.

I think our club must have some sort of record. The Par 4 5th hole used to be drivable before the grew the rough in. On one particular Sunday, 4 members of a four ball scored a 1, a 2, a 3 & a 4 on the hole. That must be some sort of record?

    Regards
    Ian

Guys, there's no contest. According to today's irish times the North Korean leader Kim jong-il had between 5 and 11 holes in one the first time he played the game. It was a fairly decent round overall as he went around the country's only 18-hole course in a meager 34.

10th hole in the Hermitage last Friday I just missed my first ace by about 2 or 3 shots :(
