Benchtop type - Anyone know where I'd hire one?

I need to do the bushes on an old landrover and I can't find any hire shop with one...most don't even know what I'm asking about.

I don't want to have to drill them out, and burning them is downright dangerous.

    Anyone?

    Gil

you're probably as easy to just take the springs to a local mechainic gill, mine will press in and out bushings for a few euro.

the chassis bushings are the real challenge.

I suppose you could use the bench press on it's side wrapped around the chassis, but you'd have an awful job taking it apart and putting it back together again.

I've heard of lads chaining a portapower ram (a body repair ram) to the chassis to push em out too.

When I did mine I went with a low tech option. drill a series of holes in the rubber, then enlarge em to weaken it.

then tighten a bolt through the bush and keep tightening it with a breaker bar and the rubber will end up tearing

then thread a hacksaw blade through the bush and carefully cut through the outer steel tube, then drive it out with a chisel.

Sounds like an awful job, and it's not fun, but once you've done one or two it's actually handy enough, you'll do one in about 20 minutes.
