My flatmate is recieving the dole at the moment. She is finding it hard to find work at the minute and has decided to srart her own business. However she cannot afford to stop recieving the dole. I told her that i thought there was some way that she can keep her dole and rent allowance if she is rtying to start her own business but i/we cannot find any info on this.

So would she be entitled to keep her payments if she starts her own business and if so then for how long. Are there any other entitlements she can claim in this situation??

    cheers

There is the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance.

Another option would be to approach the social welfare with a "what if" question: what if she were to try out being self employed, and sign off on the days she gets work, much like people on 3 day weeks etc.
