    Hi All,
Took my MBP out of my bag this morning and discovered that a bottle of water had been leaking ... laptop had been sitting in a quite damp bag for upto 40 minutes.

At the moment it won't recognise when I plug in the power cable

The MBP had been powered off (i believe that the battery had been completely discharged)

Any scope for optimism here - or failing that any recommendations for someone to repair.

    Thanks All.
    Sean

I cannot say anything definite, but there's still chance if you haven't tried to power it on.

You'll need to make sure it's completely dry.
Due to the high level of integration of laptops it's really difficult to dry them, water leaked in might accumulate under/between tiny components and if it creates a foil there, it may take weeks to dry up. There are places which you will never reach to tell this for sure.
Best idea is to store it in a place where the air is really dry putting it in a box together with some hydrophilic agent (if you don't have some, salt in a teabag will do, replacing it daily).
Do disassemble the laptop for the process, you will get better results. At the minimum, remove as many of the components as possible, and do not put the casing back on. It's more important than ever to do all this on an anti-static mat wearing an anti-static wrist-strap.

This way there may be a chance you can resurrect your friend without problems. Connecting it to the mains was a bad idea, however.

Take out battery, open lid and place in the airing cupboard for a week. be prepared though, even if you get it repaired, they are sometimes not right afterwards.
