I am receiving jobseekers allowance at the moment, and I want to claim rent allowace. My rent is below the threshold, but I was told that you cannot be sharing a room (i'm not sure why). Is this true? There are three others in my two bedroom apartment. Two to a room. What changes?

I've not hear of it. You will need to check it out with the local community welfare officer.

Certainly cohabitating couples get a raw deal with the payemnt for two being essentially the same as the payment for one.
