Copyright issues

    Hi
I posted this in the arts and crafts section but had no luck.

I reciently found out that my mum is very good at creating stained glass windows/sheets. She hasn't done it for a while and never thought of it as a business as she never saw a market for it.

As a bit of a geek I know that people over the last few years have been making stained glass windows/sheets of gaming moments/images/logos and there could be a small market for it.

    megaman
    Zelda
    etc

My mum knows she could make the same as these and many like it. If we were to create and sell something like these, would we be infringing on copyright?

I have seen loads of examples on the net over the years but it seems to be people creating them for themselves.

    Copyright definitely an issue.
Secondly, I suspect your geeky background may be swaying your judgement on what type of product Mum should make.

Better to start by looking at what sells already. Assuming she's only interested in making small amounts, better to go with an easier sell like flowers, boats, landscapes, celtic imagery etc. Suit the market much better.

I know someone who sells tacky celtic stuff to the American market via ebay. Stuff is hideous, even he thinks so, but he makes a lot of money and there is a massive market.

I suspect that might be the way to go.

She could do all that for sure. If she is interested in doing work on old houses, churches, or that sort of thing, the way to go might be to contact the glaziers around town.

It's not necessarily that it would be more profitable, just that it might be more appealing to her as work. That's important too.

Lol. Yea your probably right on that. Just knew that there wasn't anyone out there selling them as I had looked for one myself.

The celtic crap for americans was her original idea so im gonna give that a bit of research.

    Thanks for the info.

I think it's about testing and measuring what will sell. If you go at it with an open mind you will find something that works.
