Probably a long shot, but can anyone recommend somewhere in Nice France to rent a decent Road bike. Mont Ventoux is too near not to climb !!! Not as fast the Dauphine lads will be climbing it this Wednesday. :D

I use Culture Velo on Rue des Combattants d'Afrique du Nord.
I know they do rent road bikes.

    Phone +33 4 93 82 03 33 and tell them the Irish guy sent you :)

A friend rented a bike from these guys (a Specialized road bike) a year ago. €25 for a day I think. You could drop them an email to see what they have in stock and at what price.

BTW Ventoux is quite a drive from Nice (3hrs30 each way). There are lots of big mountains that you could climb directly from Nice with no driving. eg

Col de la Madone - Col de Braus - Col de l'Able - Col de l'Orme loop route
Final Paris Nice stage - route
    Ironman France - route

and 100's others if you want :)

Do you have any familiarity with the area around Nimes at all? I'll be spending a couple of weeks there with the bike - any suggestions for good cycling in the area gratefully received.

Afraid I can't help you with that, Maybe try searching on bikemap.net?

Ah, sorry, I meant to reply to your mail.

I am told a few good one-dayer's from Nice are Col de Vence (about 1500m) to Corsegules.

If you're feeling ambitious you could do the Col de Turini, which is about 200km round trip, and 2000m. or tackle it in two days by staying over in either Isola Village or St. Etienne du Tignet.

And if you want you can take the very modest 1-hour ride to work with me as a warm-up some morning next week - Nice to Sophia-Antipolis, and get some breakfast :D

im arriving in avignon with a friend on thursday july 23rd and staying til saturday but have no place to stay. its hardly surprising that every place is booked out with ten months.
