    Hi
I just thought i would share my story with everyone and that it might help people who are lacking faith and are not in a great place in their life at the moment.

I would not have been religious at all, never prayed, hardly went to mass etc etc.

I ran into a few problems when I heard that I would be made redundant in my job and basically didnt know what to do next with my life. I went to a course where a very successful business person recommended the book "The power of positive thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. It deals in a very practical manner of how to think positively and how god has such an important part to play in your life.

I have taken the suggestions from the book on board and have gone on to read all his books and I have to say things are really starting to work out for me - I feel confident and contented even though my future is still uncertain - I have been able to put my faith in god and I now know that everything will work out.

This may sound crazy - and I would have been the first sceptic up until 3 months ago.

Anyway i thought i would share this nugget of information that has turned my life around and i would recommend it to everyone

    Regards

Excellent news, lmnover. I hope you go from strength to strength.

The spiritual side of Life - which you identify as God - is probably the most important of them all, yet is often the most neglected.
Of course any religion will suffice to kick off with but, as you have found, there are other ways juat as effective.

"The power of positive thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale.

You might want to careful with that. According to the Wikipedia article Peale's techniques have been classified by some psychologists as a form of auto-suggestion and can be dangerous to mental health if practiced for long periods. He also seems to teach that people should ignore genuine mental health issues such as depression.

Like everything with Wikipedia grain of salt and all that, but buyer beware I suppose.

I suppose if you look hard enough you can find a negative argument on anything - I was also extremely sceptical prior to reading this books but I would suggest you read it and make up your own mind. To me Peale has a very practical way of relating religion to every day life - up until now I didnt think that was possible. Maybe its not for everyone but I couldnt say there is anything harmful in his books. Peale teaches that being positive is a choice and then combining this with a partnership with god - makes for a healthier happier life. I choose to believe he is correct!! as this is a much better outlook than the alternative!!
