I can't answer this question but I remember when I was in 5th year in school I had a dodgy knee injury so I agreed to enter the shot so I could get the day off school and watch the races I was interested in.

I was first to throw and wa deighted with my 6/7 metre throw considering the weight of the shot and the fact it was my first time doing the event. The rest of the lads all flung it well over 10 metres and the winner threw it around 14. I was so embarrassed I didn't even bother taking my second throw. I also developed a large bit of respect for the field event guys. So to partially answer your question the shot is bloody heavy :D

@ Ex Flex Member. In Ireland I am told your best bet is John Shields of Loki Sports Ltd, 227-229 Richmond Road, Fairview, D3. 087 2633376 or 01 8311311 or john_shields@iol.ie

South of the river an alternative method appears to be robbing them from the equipment shed at Irishtown

But as Mr Amadeus hints, why not join your local club and use them for free :)

@ Odysseus, the big buggers are 7.26kg (16lb in old money) but they start at 2kg for the young ones.
