ROYAL PAINS centers on a young E.R. doctor who, after being wrongly blamed for a patient's death, moves to the Hamptons and becomes the reluctant "doctor for hire" to the rich and famous. When the attractive administrator of the local hospital asks him to treat the town's less fortunate, he finds himself walking the line between doing well for himself and doing good for others.

Another summer pilot aired on USA last Thursday night.

Reviews for the show were pretty decent actually so I decided to give it a shot.

It's chock-block full of one dimensional characters but it was definitely enjoyable and I'd watch more. So much so that the 70 minute runtime of the pilot just seemed to breeze by (which is more than I can say for NBC's 'Mental').

The two leads are pretty likeable.. well, Mark Feuerstein more than Paulo Costanzo. And there was some witty lines in there:
"Dude, you look like Jesus and Patrick Dempsey had a baby and that baby got really old and sick!"
    .

Anyways, I'd recommend giving the pilot a shot. Suspend disbelief and turn your brain off for 70 minutes.. you'll enjoy it!

Have to say that I'm enjoying this, it's the definition of trash Tv but perfect to stick on and just kick back and enjoy.

It's neither it's a dramedy. It's hard to pigeon hold the show, while it has some dramatic features and some comedic elements you couldn't really put it either catagory.

Nope, it's meant to be that new ever popular genre, a dramedy...

TBH, it's very light-hearted and a fun distraction. Don't expect any deep plots and it doesn't take itself too seriously, but it's ok for light summer entertainment when nothing else is on...

Marcia Gay Harden has reportedly joined the cast of Royal Pains.
Entertainment Weekly says that the actress will appear in several episodes of the USA Network show.
She will allegedly play Dr. Elizabeth Blair, a surgeon and board member of Hamptons Heritage Hospital.
Harden's character will also be an "adversary turned mentor" to Jill (Jill Flint).

Have to admit to still watching this, its my dirty little secret of a TV show. Its pure throwaway and trashy but its perfect bubble gum for the brain when you just want to turn off and relax for an hour.

    Opr

Same as, started off as entertaining enough trash but quickly became formulaic beyond belief. I may give it another go when there's nothing better to watch but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
