Lets Boycott the Rag the call a paper - The Oirish Sun

    From Wikipedia
There is also an Irish edition, based in Dublin with a regional edition for Northern Ireland, known as the Irish Sun. It shares some content - namely glamour and showbiz - with the UK edition, but has mainly Irish news and editorial content, as well as sport and advertising. It often views stories in a very different light to those being reported in the UK edition, or takes a more pro-Irish angle. One notable example is how the release of the film The Wind That Shakes the Barley was covered, with the UK editions describing it as "designed to drag the reputation of our nation through the mud" and "the most pro-IRA ever", whereas the Irish edition described it as giving "the Brits a tanning".

I think it's high time this Rag is sent to the bin..

It makes a couple of good points, usually around page 3.

I don't value newspapers much these days anyway unless to pass a couple of minutes. News online is just quicker, up to date and generally more accurate.

    Thanks for the Wikipedia quote.

I heartily endorse this product or service

I boycott the Sun, just like I boycott all other tabloids. If I want fiction, or comedy - I'll rent a movie. If I want news, I'll stay well clear of the likes of the Sun/Mirror/Star.

    why do you people care?

wah wah wah the sun, wah wah wah the sun, wah wah wah the sun. every few weeks some jackass 'informs' us that the sun isn't a worthwhile newspaper

    OMFG REALLY?!

    YOU'RE KIDDING, RIGHT?!

    ffs

don't buy it if you don't like it, but stop ****ing ****ing on as if the rest of us haven't already made this decision for ourselves ages ago.

I can't stand The Irish Sun or any of its tabloid buddies, but, well, the only people likely to participate in a boycott of The Sun, would be the people who don't already buy it.. which probably wouldn't hit their sales in any major way. :pac:

I don't know, I have problems with the Irish Sun much of the time true, but, well, the last week or two, it's given us some good sunshine.

    It's not all bad.

They should call them Sun "viewers", as I don't think that anyone buying the poor man's toilet paper can actually read.

Hasn't their crossword only got one square in it, this being black so's they don't have to traumatise their single brain-cell thinking of an answer?

Because a few boardsies boycotting The Irish Sun will send it's revenue spiraling downwards and will surely ruin them

Is this reverse psychology from an Irish sun marketing person?
    It worked.
I'm going to buy it just to spite you.

Everyone's complaining about the cold weather then when we finally get a bit of sun, you say to boycott it!

Completely agree, all profits made by the Sun should be taken and used to make a time machine to go back and stop what happened, or on research on how to bring people back to life.

I don't think about it enough to boycott it. I just don't buy it.

The op is just telling us someting we knew years ago but I will make it easier

    The Sun
    The Mirror
    The Times
    The Indo
    The Herald

If you found anything other than anti irish tony o reilly and West brit crap in them i commend you.

    What are you left with

    The Examiner
    The Star

The Examiner is truly a class papper by thomas Crosbie media which has the ability to contradict my opinion WITH FACT but support it the next week. Its what a paper should do...

    Yes i know.... OTT!

Boycotting implies I would buy it if it were not for its stance on some particular issue or the fact they get small children to painstakingly hand copy each copy in some sweat shop for a grain of rice a week.

I wouldn't give it the significance of being boycotted. I just don't buy it because it's sh1t.

    +1

I give you one name everyone. Collette McBarron.

The Sun gave her more than enough rope to hang herself with about a month back.

    They are anti-Irish Defence Forces.

Newsstand reading only. I will never, ever, pay for that bullcrap.

Why the hell would anyone be up at 12.03 in the morning calling for the boycott of a tabloid newspaper?

    Someone needs a girlfriend.

    Or a drink.

I really feel sorry for whoever writes the articles that go on page 3. Doubt anyone reads them. Wouldn't be surprised if all it had was, "blah blah blah something blah blah blah"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 149 ✭✭Dumbledore

Why anyone reads anything other than The Irish Times or the In Independent is beyond me. however there is noting better than settling in on a rainy Sunday with The Sunday Independent, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Tribune and the Sunday Business Post! you just feel so much more knowledgeable after reading them all :P.

The SI, a tabloid masquerading as a broadsheet, no thanks.

Since I haven't ever actually bought a newspaper, you could say that I've been boycotting them all for a very long time.

Any news articles that are sold for profit will be sensationalist to varying degrees, and possibly biased.

They often have good exclusives though, and as long as long as the front page font isnt larger than my pinky finger I do not consider it tabloid! That is a rule by which I live my life and if that is wrong then I don't want to be right!
