Simple as, which amps are "the bread and butter" of main studio's. You know like the amp that Should be at your studio!

So far its an AC30, Fender 65' Twinreverb, 59' Bassman, Mesa Dual rectifier, Deizel VH4....... what else

Mods, I taught this would suit the production forum better the the guitars.

    Thanks

I guess a Marshall or two might be on that list too.

Having said that anything makes an interesting noise is useful, especially for some 'non-typical' guitar noises in a track ...

I've a kit built 18 watt valve head that's very versatile that invariably gets pulled out on every session.

I recorded a Cornford combo amp during the week that made a very pleasing noise with my Tubescreamer clone in front of it too.

    Very impressive.

Well Mr Brewer, was that a Ts808 or 909? I've been thinking about diy'in an overdrive pedal and to be honest the tubescreamer is probally the best.

What clone kit did you use or was it a self source parts?

And on the Marshalls, i've only ever used newer one 1990 - present. Jcm 900's and the likes, im not a big fan, esp the eq and flabby lowend/lowmid freqs.

But i would love to try a Plexi one day!

Is it Black with the word Valvepower on the front? :) if so then thats the ONLY amp needed..... its a killer little head owned or used to be owned by a guy near your place? did you buy it off him I know he was selling it?!?

I would say amp wise a Soldano 100, Boogie MKIIc, Orange Tiny Terror....soon to look at the new 5150 mk3 :) heard great things....

An assortment of good quality speakers/cabs is also very important. I recently did some comparisons using a number of different amps plugged into the same cab and the differences were not as great as I was expecting them to be.

Of the speakers I have used the Celestion Alnico Gold really stands out.

On the bass side of things we have an Ampeg SVT II in studio that I couldn't do without, hard not to get a nice sound out of it.

Aye, especially with an 8x10 ...

Might stick one into me Matamp cab ...

Another speaker brand that gets a lot of love are Scumbacks. They also make an alnico one called the Scumnico. I have their G12M clone bought, but it will be a couple of weeks before it ships.

I have a couple of '69 marshall super basses that nail that classic rock tone, esp with an od and a les paul in front. also i have a 79 super lead that got used in grouse lodge once with a big muff and aki g drive in front....two pedals id never have thought to use...but boy did it sound great. having a late '70s park 4x12 with 85watt celestions to go through didnt hurt either!

As previously said Vox AC30 always delivers the goods. Fender twin is also great. I have had some great results using a Marshall Bluesbreaker.

I really like the mid-range of my HiWatt, great for cutting thru busy mixes.

Pedal wise, I am favouring a Diamond J-Drive Mark II at the minute. I also use an MXR 10-Band EQ quite a bit post overdrive to sculpt the tone.

Yeah early Clapton Beano album years was mainly a Bluesbreaker. Love that tone man!

2 channel Mesa Dual Rectifier boosted with Maxon OD 808 into Mesa Rectifier 4x12 = massive amounts of win for heavy tones

Peavey 5150 Voodoo mod + Framus Cobra with maxon 808, ala killswitch engage/Parkway Drive tone. Which in my opinion has to be some of nicest produced metal guitar tones, none of that scooped mid crap!!

Had a mesaboogie here once, and NOTHING, but absolutely NOTHING gets even close to that.
