Seems that were getting Blood an full two weeks before it's released in England.

The IFCO has called the film a Stylized, Buffy-on-speed, lucid gorefest which bodes well for any film in my books.

The films stars our very own Liam Cunningham and is shaping up to be soemthing quite special. The anime is excellent and the manga even better. Hopefully this is'nt going to be one of those great trailer films.

I saw this trailer when I went to see Let The Right One In and I was very impressed. I'm looking forward to this quite a lot!

Reviews are quite mixed but they all agree that it has some fantastic action scenes and is an entertaining film which retains much of what was great about the anime.

I think it was the fact that for 40 odd minutes I got to wallow in blood and violence while half asleep in an airport at 5am.

I remember watching BtLV and Vampire Hunter D around the same time a few years ago, VHD was a better flick but BtLV was a pretty good (although too short) anime. Am looking forward to the movie release :D

Didn't know they were doing a live action movie. I'm in two minds about it (via trailer, I haven't read any reviews/previews)... it looks a bit like it's over produced with craploads of gratuitous CGI and fluff that's not needed. Though the acting looks like it's solid which is good - especially when you have Japanese people speaking English (which normally is a huge wad of fail).

Is the feature going to be as short as the anime was? I imagine they have to add more to the storyline (notably I haven't read the manga) to ensure people aren't angry at paying to see a very short film, especially these days.

I'll definitely check it out either way as I loved the anime. In fact that'll probably be my viewing tonight!

If it's anything like the short animation (not the series) I'll be happy.

From what i heard, it isnt exactly based on the anime version of it, just takes core elements from it

CGI's sketchy in some bits but brilliant in others. Wonder how the consistency will hold up in the feature.

I preferred the series to the OVA >.>

the ticket said that they weren't given a press screening, so hmm, that usually says the film is poopie... any links to reviews [/lazy]

I saw it today and it was very good. I preferred Let The Right One In but it is certainly one of the better attempts at the Vampire genre in recent memory. The only gripe that I have is that the ending was a bit lightweight and underwhelming.
I also pretty much saw the twist coming the second I saw Onigen on screen.

    Found it crap personally.

Though I admit I wasnt a fan of the original anime, I thought this was much poorer.

What did you not like about it Blitzkrieg?

I thought the story was very weak and poorly paced
they explained some details far too late into the film, other details such as the monster that killed her old gaurdian is introduced in one scene, revealed the next scene and then killed off the following scene,
    add on to that, plotholes
that the girl she saved never gets told or finds out that she's a vampire. She saw her kill a load of monsters, but she never saw her drink blood herself nor did she say *Hey i'm an immortal vampire* Yet for some reason the girl knew that cutting her hand and giving her blood would save her life. The whole storyline also seems to be a plothole, seeing as while we all knew what the hero was trying to achieve, the villians didnt seem to have any goal beyond being fodder for her sword.
also the flashback scenes were nonsensical
we get about 3-4 of them but they have little connection, poorly dispersed with them varying from karate kid style pearls of wisdom scenes to a random one about her lover that she killed which is brought up in one scene really really briefly and is then turned into a 20 second bizarred f*ck with her moment from the villian (which equally didnt make sense since the kid had grown up when he was killed) and its all expected to mean something the viewer, when really its more of a *wtf?* moment, this one is followed with a random one where the demons (unexplained) find the village and attack and the girl (again unexplained) stops ageing.
Finally the last act of the film feels like someone took the script to Return of the Jedi's act and replaced
father with mother and son with daughter

I felt the action scenes were also quite poor, the one on the streets was overstretched and repetitive and when
the monster went all nasty, the sfx looked like really bad stopmotion combined with a shots of a a really bad costume, not to mention they looked nowhere near as intimidating or horrific as the ones from the original anime, looking more like that horrible sfx monster from the golden child
the last fight had some clever elements to it that were simply not used at all and ended up being very tame
the main villian kept dropping spider hints in her brief scenes (killing the bellboy for crushing a spider, webs and spiders everywhere in the run up to the last fight, so I was expecting her dress to act like spider legs the way they moved about. Instead the last fight is pretty straight forward with a weak climax

And then there's the character's and acting, well none of them are appealling except
her handler from the council, but he gets hardly any screentime
the american girl is headwreckingly annoying, especially in the second half of the film where she delivers most of her lines so cringeworthily bad
    especially her big final line
all the other characters are criminally under developed
villians say nothing pretty much until final scene and then they have her talk too much in a confusing manner about impulse, race, motherhood etc, think a really bad hackney of magneto/darth vader and you got it

SO yeah, didnt like it. And one final question
in the anime she is the last vampire, the last of her kind of demon hunting other types of demons, I dont know if the manga changed that but in the film the title *the last vampire* doesnt make sense if her mother is still alive

i'm sorry but the worst movie I saw so far this this year...yes even worse than Observe & Report.

I was so bored that it felt like it had a running time of about 4 hours.

terrible cgi at a few points in the movie; terrible pacing; action was pretty dire and repetitive.

    fail

I've just watched this, and am still in a numb state of shock.

The CGI, when it was bad, was utterly godawful. I'm talking late night Zone Horror godawful. It really reinforces the idea that if you can't use good CGI, use a man in a rubber suit. All the more annoying due to the fact that it did occasionally look good.

The fight scenes, which I'd expected to be a high point of the movie from the trailer, lacked any sense of urgency or excitement - except for brief moments - so incredibly inconsistent. I was actually getting bored during them. Perhaps something to do with the fact that it just seemed way too easy for Saya to kill the vamps.

I started pre-emptively cringing whenever the American girl looked like she was going to speak - utterly trite dialogue, and delivered horribly.

Jeon Ji-hyun (or Gianna now apparently) was easily the best thing about the movie - but then I've always thought her cute as hell, so I'm biased. Time for me to return to Korea mayhap.

I don't know what to say about this, maybe my expectations were too high going into it. I liked the animé, so my view may be coloured by that too.

I swear I'm going to have nightmares about the CGI tonight.

EDIT: Mein Gott....I have just read that the budget was $37 million. And _that_ was the best effects they could get for that? *cries*
