Hello there, I would like some info on childrens boxing, I was wondering what age do kids normally start at?

I done a small bit a long time ago and I do follow the sport and i would be interested in getting involved in learning to coach, my son is 4 and i think he might still be a bit young, What are your opinions?

The IABA are running a course on June 19th & 20th..........its for kids aged 5-10...........its called non contact boxing..........for kids that age it should be just games and getting them used to being in a gym.......the course should be interesting.

Yeah I think competitvely the minimum age is 10 or 11? maybe someone else can clear that up, but at age 4 it would be great to get the kid familiar with the sport and doing fun drills with him. That course with the iaba sounds good.

A kid must be 11 years old to box competively...........10 year olds are allowed do exhibtions.........ie no winner/loser.

I think aged 4 is far too young really. I think there are problems with clubs and kids
now due to insurance? I did hear something about this. It's hard to get insurance when the members are so young.

When your child is 8 or 9 I think it's appropriate to
bring them in and as said, 11 is the competitive age, with
spars and exhibitions being possible before then!

I started at 9 and got loads of sparring in before competitive. but i started kickboxing at 5 so it would be better to start him in kickboxing where it is competitive at nearly all ages then he has a grounding in the boxing when he starts that. A good example of a person who did this is Nigel Benn.:pac:
