    Always liked the Manta.
Never owned/drove one but still rate them on appearance alone.

I got into Capris 15 years ago & have had one most years since.
Could just as easily have gone the 'Manta way' though.

There's a Manta lying in a front garden off Griffith Avenue in Dublin. Same shape as that but a bit older I think. Been there a good few years now. Nice car btw.

Do you have any preferences? Hatch or Coupe for example? Coupes are hard to find and usually fetch a bit more.

Just saw this thread ...posted a link in an older one that came up first on a search..

Ive been dreaming about owning a Manta since I was a kid... Im in no way mechanially proficient so buying one is a bit of a risk. How much would a solid road worthy one actually cost....sorry for the noob question:rolleyes:

depends on how much you want to spend & what sort of a manta you want !

youd have to cross the water to get a good one for reasonable money though

the ones here are too dear & need work .even though they say they dont !!!!!!!!!!!!

i know of a tidy a series manta for sale, & reasonable price too

    heres a number for it

    Contact Dave on 087 2513406

Keep an eye on ebay.co.uk - you will get an idea what type of Manta goes for what type of money. People can ASK what they like but that they actually get is another. If the car has a recent MOT then it should be fairly solid. 87 and 88s tend to rust faster than the 82-86s. Coupes will fetch more than Hatches.

A bit off topic. but what's the difference between a GTE and a GT/J ? A neighbour had a beautiful silver GT/J coupe when I was a kid. Then he went and traded it for a Toyota AE86, which incidentally was the only original Irish one I ever saw.

The GT/J model was the first of the facelifted Mantas. Opel broke new ground, offering this model with the Family II Over head Camshaft engine. The engine was being used in most Opel models from 1982, in various sizes. The 1.8S GTJ bore little resemblance to the earlier GT/J model. This was the basic Manta Model, wheras the previous GT/J was the top of the range, sporting edition. With basic trim but the same mechanical components as other models, it proved to be the perfect entry level Manta.

The GT/J stayed in production for 1year, being replaced by the GT. The differences in trim levels seemed too small to continue producing them - the model dissappeared making it a rare example of relatively low volume production.

The Manta GT/E, introduced in 1982, became the top of the range model. With the Cam in Head 2.0 litre fuel injected engine and uprated suspension, it gave the Manta the sporting appeal that it needed. Recaro sports seats gave a more supportive ride helped by the uprated suspension - stiffer springs and gas dampers were standard. Both Coupe and Hatchback body styles were offered and featured 14" Ronal alloy wheels as standard.

The GT/E stayed in production up until 1987, when the GT/E Exclusive became the only 2.0l available for the final year of production.

8388 ZX was the reg of the Twin Cam. She was/is silver and originally resided in Ashe Street in Tralee, not far from the Kerry's Eye offices. It was traded into Kelliher's in late 1990/early 1991, not sure against what. This fella then traded his Manta against the Cam.

I've seen that 143 AIN one around a good bit. She was yellow the last time I saw her!
