Help and advice needed urgently!!!!!

    Hey everyone!!!

I have a family wedding coming up soon (next weekend) and i need some advice urgently!!!

I'm not a girly girl by any means, i like make-up and when i have the money i like to get my hair done, BUT that's the height of it. I hate shopping and very rarely put on tan etc. Im a site engineer, so hard hats and boots are what im used to!!!! So i appologise if i ramble or ask stupid questions.

Right, heres my main predicament, during the recent gorgeous weather i have gained a lovely farmers tan, which, as you can imagine looks a bit patchy. Unfortunately (because tan never goes on good for me :o) the dress that im going to wear requires me to have some tan on as otherwise it makes me look awful pale. Iv just gotten piz buin (sp?) tan, the one where you can vary the tan colour to suit your needs, so what i was wondering is has anyone any advice for how i should go about applying it? Mainly how to cover up the farmers tan and avoid blotchyness or streaking? I work long hours and only have the day before the weddding to make myself look decent, so i dont have time for something to go wrong :o!!!!

Also, the dress has an underskirt/lining thing that seems to stick to my legs and rides up, iv heard that hairspray will stop that happening, does it really work? Any other advice on how to stop that happeing?

One last thing, has anyone any suggestions as to where i could get a dressy cardigan type top to put over the dress? Heres a photo of the dress, im looking for an off white colour because the shoes and bag are off white.

Thanks to anyone in advance that can help me!!!!

The dress is gorgeous. Yes you will def need a tan. Would you not get a spray tan done in a salon so you don't have to worry about it going wrong? You can ask them to do it light if your afraid it's going to be too much. Get it done one or 2 days beforehand. Loads of salons have great deals on at the moment like get your tan and nails done for €35.

If you want to do it yourself, or you're getting it done -exfoliate everyday in the shower and but on loads of moisturiser. Don't put on moisturiser the day your putting the tan on, but do put some on your elbows/knees/ knuckles. Don't worry about the farmers tan, probably won't be very noticable. If your using your own tan put on one coat 2 days before, then a coat on the day before. Put on lots of moisturiser the morning of the wedding.

New Look is very good for getting bags/ shoes/ cardigans. Or instead of a cardigan you could get a fake pashmina- they have off white ones in Pennys for €4.

Enjoy yourself - walk tall and proud and show of your lovely dress, do't be slouching or hiding because your not used to it. Hope you have a ball:)

    Hey rosebush!!!!

thanks a mill for replying!!! I was thinking about going to a salon, the only problem is that ill be working till at least 6 every evening and all last week i was working until 7 and 7.30, so i didn't think that id have the time during the week to get in before the salon closes etc. stupid question i know, but how long does it take to get tan done in a salon? I might look into getting off early may be Wednesday or thursday evening, the weddings on on saturday.

Thats what i was going to do and everyone was saying to get one, but I was having a look at those pashmina things in penneys the other day and i dont think that id have the patients for them, i think itd get on my nerves a small bit!!!!!:D.

Thanks a mill again for your advice!!!

Make sure your deodrant is completely gone from your underarms before apply the tan/ getting the spray tan done. If you dont you will end up with green armpits! I made that mistake ;[[

it only takes about ten mins to get a spray tan and i'd say it'd be the safest option check out salons near by you i'm sure one will be open late one evening that suits...yea make suit your skin is totally clean of anything no lotions make up etc. and wear something lose that won't mess it up after...flip flops good option for feet...best of luck:D oh and if u put a lil stitch attaching the lining of the dress to the dress it should help hold it down...

Mmmm that's a good idea, id just be afraid that it might stop the dress being "flowy" but ill certainly have a look at doing that.

That's cool. I think i might give some of them a ring and see. I didn't think that it was so quick!!!! Just shows how uninterested that i am in all that kinda stuff!!!!!

    Thanks for yor advice!!!!

    Hi

I;m not into tans either , but got a spray tan done last year for a wedding and not really sure if i would bother again

not withstanding the cost (can't remmeber exactly, but i got it done in a day spa in Cork )and effort to practically scrub my skin off during the days before, it came out ok - but i guess i was looking for more than ok

The worst thing was tha my toes were absoluty like muck - thankfully had closed toe shoes on , but they did come off towards the end of the night and i got such a shock. Judging by your photo of the dresss, you are probably wearing sandles -so watch out!

Also, as i was dancing etc , naturally i was sweating , but i seemed to sweat sooo much more that i kept having to go to the bathroom to literally wipe my brow down. And i could smell the tan all night!! Yuck!
So i dontl know, i wonder would it be easier to put on some of the stuf that comes up in a few days - Johnsons or whatever, so that you can get a "feel" for it yourself....

Whatever you decide, i'm sure you'll be grand - WEll done on the dress BTW!!

    Hey Froggie01!!!

I'm actually not wearing sandles, don't like my feet in them :D!!!! Iv got these shoes instead!!! Fell in love with them when i saw them before i got the dress, but was lucky enough that the suit the dress!!!!

I hate the smell of really strong tan. It just ruins the whole thing!!!!

I was told that you would want a couple of weeks to build the tan up enough with johnsons and the weddings this day week, so i dont know if id have enough time to build it up enough.

Iv also one other problem, getting the tan done during the week, in particular the salon one may pose a problem as i work on a construction site and the work that im at....well lets say that it can be quite messy and dirty which would mean that i wouldnt be able to 'mind' the tan after i got it done.

Has anyone got any experience of using this piz buin product? Any advice?

God, such a fuss over one day!!! Grrrrr!!!!

    Thanks again to everyone!!!!

I'm pale and I've used the Johnsons holiday skin and a Nivea buildable tan that's the same type of thing (the nivea was better). I'd say if you started using the likes of them tomorrow then you'd have a grand tan.

If you put it on in the morning and again at night then the colour would build up well. I did that for about 2 days before my debs and it took the deathly colour out of me quite well.

If you want a spray tan get it done after work in a salon that's open late on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

    Beautiful dress by the way!
