    Hi all,

Just Wondering quickly, do the static hub caps on a Formula one car(say Brawn GP) bulge out slightly or are the flat and flush with the wheel?

If they do bulge out, why does this produce less drag?

    Thanks

    Sean

those hub caps are for brake cooling. they act as a scoop to pull air onto the brake disks. to be able to do this effectively they must bulge out to catch moving air. i didnt think they were for aerodynamic purposes, more for brake cooling and they were made aerodynamic to reduce the drag that adding them causes

I think its both for brake cooling and to reduce the drag too. Without them there was a huge empty space that air would rush in to but now the air is either directed to the brakes or flows over the hubcaps.
Thats my view on them but I could be completely wrong.
