What should i be doing? Is hosing the dirt off the bike and spraying some oil on the chain afterwards enough?

    Is WD40 a no-no? What about 3 in 1?

    Whats the deal with lube?

    Should i oil the forks?

    Thanks :)

Dont "oil" the forks, you'll probably do more damage than good.
Remove any dirt or grit from around the stanchions, especially the stuff that gets caught at the seals.

Use some proper bike lube on the chain - not WD40 (useless) or 3in1...dirt sticks to it far too easily and accelerates wear.
Something from FinishLine or White Lightening or something will do the trick. Apply, let it soak, wipe off excess.
Clean the chain regularly...ParkTool Chainbrite and a chain scrubber is the best for this

yea i often wondered the same. after a spin i hose down the bike, leave it dry for a while then oil the chain with a wet lube from halfords ( usually you get 3 for 2 ) the with an oil spray spray the suspension links and the derailleurs etc.

a tip i saw in another site was that you only oil the chain & never the casette as otherwise the casette gets destroyed with dirt. this is a good tip !!! as even after many dirty spins my casette is still fairly clean.

i then pop bike into shed.
maybe keep the shock stancions clean from grit as this wears the seals.

Buy a chain cleaner and a 5ltr tin of 'jizer' from a motor factors. Degrease the chain every 8 - 10 hours of use. This is the most important bit. Also, best lube is finish line 'wet lube'....dont bother with the dry stuff.....stantions, clean down and lube with the wet lube, should be grand if forks are any good.

I use a low power jet washer, great for getting the cak off.
