have to be desparate to sign up with eircom, free connection or not. their monthly rental charge is a disgrace.

    Compared to what?
All the telephone companies charge the same line rental.

    compared to ntl for example

But not everyone can get NTL in Ireland .
Eircom works out cheaper if you make more than 15 minutes a day of landline calls. You can get a package on Eircom with all landline calls off peak and 1Mb broadband for €45.11 a month. NTL (as far as I know) don't have any free calls packages. If you only want the phone line to get broadband - then yes NTL will be cheaper.

compared to 49eur for broadband, cable tv and phone line.. .. free installation and a free phone AND half price on your first month with ntl.. it is indeed a rip off whether it is available to everyone or not.

if you cannot get ntl then there are other options which are much cheaper like a 3 PAYG sim with skype and buy a skype calls package

eircom adverts should be banned also, the gall of the company to suggest anybody would "save" money with them....

Still a disgrace. Even midband can be cheaper than the rental alone.

NTL sell free TV channels in their cable TV pack.

How dumb is that for the people who buy free stuff ?

i think thats off topic. but until free digital tv is rolled out across ireland then obviously there will continue to be a sub standard cable service on offer. but if you factor in the 3 products of tv, broadband and telco for <50eur, then its great value compared to other offerings. we just need more competition and for mobile operators to be able to offer upto 4 products so greater discounts can be given. eircom must be forced to reduce their excessive line rental tariff as it prohibits competition and has increased broadband costs for the whole country.

I'd rather stick needles in my balls than sign up with
    those pr***s again.
Got charged for broadband i never received off them recently.
They sold me a 3mb line pack even tho my line was only able
for 1mb and then they charged me for satellite broadband
at 45pm which i never got of course
They went as far as sending me a solictors letter and it was
only then that i got the amount for the broadband taken off
the bill. The solicitor did this yet eircom couldnt
    Their cs absolutely sucks

does this fee not include free calls as well as the broadband?

It includes some off peak local and national landline calls and some free minutes to meteor phones.

and its €56.22 with local and national landline calls peak & off peak.

    still terrible value.

its 4.54€ for unlimited calls 24/7 with skype. if you have a 3 skype phone you can have these unlimited call charges with no line rental, so how can eircom justify the top whack for their prices with their terrible service (1-2mths to install etc..)

ntl line rental is 5€, and 5 or 10€ for a call package if you want it, with a free cordless phone and half price for 3 months...

But if you don't live in the cities/towns of Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Limerick and Cork you can't get NTL / UPC broadband . (Thats a lot of people )
Also - the problems with 3 mobile have been covered here on boards in great detail - and loads of people are not happy with them.
The original post was just pointing out that if you want a "landline" - then Eircom have to provide it and at the moment it is free connection.

Last time I got a landline on one of their free connection deals, I got charged €100 for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

Yeah MOH, free connection or not, Eircom always bill you anyway for connection. It's crazy but you gotta let them know you want the free connection offer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭Rev. Kitchen

They do send out a standard letter saying you have been charge 130 euro for this connection then it says if you have bought this as part of a deal then this 130 euro will be credited to your account. I got this recently and didnt pay 130.

just got free connection:rolleyes: once off payment of €30
free line rental for 10 months
3mb bb with 30gb limit per month
    30 mins to mobile network
free local and national after 7pm each evening and all weekend
    €17 first 3 months
    €27 for next 7 months
then up to €51 after that.......

    12 month contract

I'm surprised the relevant competition authority hasnt gotten involved in this, by having free connection they are effectively blackmailing people into signing up with them instead of another provider

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

blackmailing is a bit harsh there.........
they're taking the hit on a line rental for 10months
something another provider cant do but in 12months
    i can look around again
    what do you suggest
    i think its a bargain.........

ok, that was a bit harsh, but they are making sure that it's more expesive to sign up to any other provider, which means everyone else is having to undercut eircom by more than they'd otherwise have to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭surfjunky

Any link to that offer soundsham, can't seem to find it on their website,
    Cheers.

From what I've heard from someone working in eircom (not very high up or in the department that would directly deal with these things so it may be wrong) they ran it by comreg before running the offer. It's also open to any reseller. So there is nothing stopping vodafone, utv, bt etc. letting their new signups avail of this offer.

Went witht the eircom deal, got the free connectiona and signed up for a 1 year 47 a month package, connection worth 120 so reckong will just see out the yeat until i can switch and should be quids in, customer service appalling but once i got it up and going no problems.

The offer soundsham posted probably isn't available anymore. There's very strict guidelines for getting the 10 months free line rental. It's only in certain parts of the country at a time and there's other criteria. No harm in ringing them and asking do you qualify or will you in the future though.
