    Hey guys,

I'm going to be in China in September and was wondering if there are any decent trade shows on that you know of from personal experiences. No specific ideas with what I am looking for, I just want to go to see how they work etc and just have a nosey around.

    Nice one

The Guandong commodities fair is the biggest in China. Never been to it but i know the stalls there are very expensive and hard to get although there are complete chancers renting parts of stalls and selling crap. Think its on around then.

Wouldnt bother with any fairs in Shanghai. Was there last June and went to one just being nosey. All the stuff is apprantly the same stuff you get in Guandong but more expensive as there are more foreigners about.

My take on it would be that most chinese companies (I have been in contact with) who actively advertise and seek customers are charging a premium. I found that the prices on alibaba.com were comparable to wholesale prices available in the states. I did, by chance, happen to find a manufacturer who didn't advertise anywhere and was substantially cheaper than the alibaba prices. I think the problem is that big companies like to deal with big orders, if you stick up an add on alibaba you could get a thousand emails a day from spammers, dreamers and teenagers and send out 2000 samples a month and still not get a single order or get a pallet sized order which isn't worth bothering with.

I think what happens is that most of the "companies" on alibaba are tech savvy new generation young english speaking Chinese who act as middle men for the companies. They advertise inflated prices and take the hit for months replying to all the rubbish emails ect. and then every so often they make a good markup on an order after 50,000 misses.

I reckon this will all get blown out of the water soon when someone cracks importgenius secrets and makes it affordable, showing everyone who the big boys actually deal with.

All this said I have never been to china so I am only guessing that trade shows would be similar, maybe not. I do know that alot of the middlemen on alibaba list the trade shows they have attended.
