This one is driving me nuts, but I'm told you can fix it. How do I set the Return key to open files in Finder?

I didn't actually, and thanks. But I still need to know how to set it so that just hitting the Return key, when a file is selected in the Finder, the file then opens.

Not sure if you can via OSX, but maybe using something like Quicksilver would do it.

I'm afraid you cannot do this in Finder. Hitting the Return key will just rename the file.
If you're using 10.5, then activating Spotlight, doing a search and pressing Return over the desired target will open the file, and it's even easier than always locating it via the Finder. If you get used to this you will never want to use the Finder for simple file open operations. However, in 10.4 this doesn't work, as you'll also have to press Cmd.

If you prefer a file manager that can be set to follow Windows keyboard behaviour then this may be for you:

(There are other similar products but I think this is by far the best)
