At last I got my first eagle this year.......at Skerries tonight.

With the help of a strong tailwind I hit a drive and then a wedge just off the front of the green and then chipped in.

I don't get that may eagles so I was delighted.

How many eagles has anyone else had so far this year?

havent had any this year yet but i had two last year....in a row! - was just a practice round though. eagle 3 on shortish par 5 followed by chip-in eagle two on driveable par 4 - both very downwind on the day.

As was mentioned on a thread a few weeks ago, i'd back to back eagles in Kilkenny, Par 5 and a Par 3. Par 5 was a drive and rescue to 5 feet, the Par 3 was a 200 yard 5 iron. I've had at least one on the 17th in Malahide this year also.

Congrats on your first eagle of the year, must have been some drive, (even taking into account the wind) to only have a wedge left. What hole in Skerries was it?

It was the fourth at Skerries. Yes I caught the drive well and was left with 120 yards to the green. It was a stiff breeze but not a gale. Overall I was very pleased with my driving today. I'm not a short hitter when I'm on form but then again I am by no means up with the longest.

Missed my best oppertunity for one on Thursday, par 4 missed the putt by inches, settled for a birdie!:D

Congrats on the first of the year

Thanks......they are rare events for me. With the summer coming I can maybe reach some of the par 5 s in two - however reaching them is one thing........hitting the green and holing the putt are tantalisingly difficult.

The pros make it look so easy but then again they are extremely talented.

Well done Stockdam - great achievement!
Got a hole in one in competition a few weeks ago, 160 yard 8 iron (wind assisted). Was great because I got a nice view of the ball going into the hole and my playing partner said 'that looks really good' as it was in the air - a bit like lawrie's caddie for his ace in the irish open. Not likely to get many eagle opportunities on par 5's anymore - used to go for par 5's in two but now realise my desire doesn't match my ability and normally use an iron for second instead.

i tried the happy gilmore swing and on my first try got 300 yards...with a 3 wood haha got a eagle on a par 5 and then again on a shortish par 4 with noral swing but i hit the gilmore swing CONSISTENTLY and striaght it was hilarious. seeing the ball come of the club face was so coool better than anything so i got back to back eagles and one the round

Well done and I hope you saw it all the way into the cup. I've yet to get a hole in one; hitting the green in one is my current ambition :o

I got a hole in 1 on the par 3 17th in Dublin City last night. Gap wedge to right side of green, trickle down slope, plop!

Had two eagles this week in practice. 1st ones of the year. Both were Downwind. Friday hit drive bout 330. 7 iron to about 3 foot and holed putt. Saturday evening hit drive 300 5 iron to 20 feet and holed out. Happy days. Then yesterday in competition, on the short par 4 5th hit 6 iron from the tee and lipped out with my wedge from 100 yards. It looked like it would drop the whole way as it was running up the green. I'll take the tap in birdie though!

Had my first one of the year in the Junior Cup two weeks ago. Was in the matchplay stage on the morning of Day 2 at the 15th in South County.

Drove it over the first ditch and hit a hybrid to 15 feet. Rolled in the putt with a good few people watching from the hill behind the 16th and went on to win the match on the 20th.

Came close to two in my round yesterday in Lucan on the 5th and 17th, both par 5's. Lipped out on both occasions from 10 and 15 feet respectively. Getting closer. :D

As CC Penniston once said, finalleeeeeeeeee it happened to me...

Had my first ever eagle in competition last weekend in Charlesland. Hit a big drive down 15 and then a six iron from about 180 to around 10 feet. Rolled a little curler in for the eagle. Lovely.

First competition eagle this year in Limerick GC last week....par 5 8th...drove over the drain and was left with about 215-220...hit a beautiful 4 iron that pitched centre of the green and rolled to 3 feet...

Had my first in some time last night. 6th hole in South County, off the back sticks, hit a cracking drive (with my new driver!) and a beautiful 4 iron to about 8 feet, sinking the putt. Made me very happy :pac:
