Getting an ipod touch from the states?

A friend of mine is coming over from the states in the next few days, and I'm wondering is it a good idea to ask him to pick me up an ipod touch? The retail price is a lot cheaper, I can get a 32gb one for around $369 (currently €263) as opposed to €369 from apple.ie.

Would this be recommended or does anyone think it's a bad idea for reasons unbeknownst to me?

Also, would anyone have any idea what store is cheapest for him to pick it up from?

    Thanks for any help.

It's a good idea to get him to get you one as it's a fair bit cheaper with the price difference. Unlike the iPhone, there are no restrictions on the iPod touch, so it'll work fine here. The only difference will be that if it breaks, you might have trouble with the warranty.

Apple tend to be quite strict with their discounts, so it'll probably be the same price everywhere (minus the tax). If he's near an Apple store, I'd recommend going there. http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist/

Otherwise, any big store will carry them like Walmart or Best Buy.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any particular reason why going to the apple store is better? He doesn't have a lot of time to spare between now and leaving so it may be a bit trickier for him to go an apple store.

And any idea what the worst case is with the warranty? Would I have to post it back over etc if it breaks or could I get a replacement here?

That's the thing, I'm not sure. They usually check the serial number to assess your warranty, so they might see that it was bought in America and tell you to send it back. Or they might not even notice and repair it anyway, I don't know, sorry.

As for the Apple store, no reason really, just easier to get one there since the shop is just for Apple stuff. But since he's short on time, just tell him to get one anywhere. Any decent electronics store will have them. On this page, http://www.apple.com/buy/ try searching for a reseller in the area he's in.

There are loads of Walmarts and Best Buys around too, they might be easiest to find:

I got an iTouch brought back from Canada where the prices (in the Apple store) are even lower than in the US.
