I tried the memory thing on the crucial.com site and it basically said something along the lines of no such memory on our system - which I read as "Your pc is shocking old, please F*"&!! off".

Fair enough, it is an old 600Mhz machine, but it's my mother in laws and is well up for browsing / email which is all she uses it for.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance...

It is just standard PC133 SD RAM, here is more than you can shake a stick at. ;)

    Or from e-bay:

Gosh - using the link you provided the Ram (at 46 eu or so) from Dell costs more for 256MB than the 4GB!! I just ordered for my current desktop from crucial. I know the ram is a bit old but seriously!! :-)

Will go the ebay route - will get 512mb for not more more than a tenner.

Just to say thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
