Practically all the knobs are midi assignable, so you can assign whatever knob you need to a function in your tractor.

You will need a midi interface to hook it up to the computer and a sound-card to get sounds out of the computer back into the mixer.

Also be mindful of the fact that most sound cards have Jack or XLR ins and outs, your mixer will have RCA connectors. So either get adaptors or buy a sound card with RCA connectors.

There's usually a few dance music guys around here to answer this kind of stuff, but they are all over in their new sub-forum with their hands down each others panties discussing how important a kick drum is in dance music. And other repetitious dross that we've all read a hundred times already in an effort to make the forum look useful.

Cheers, can you recommend a good soundcard and midi interface?also can I assign two channels for midi and use two for cd's if I wanted to?

Any sound card with a midi port and the right type of inputs will do.

Ok, Midi is 16 channels on one cable. Basically you have a transmit and receive channel that you assign on each machine. Unless the CD players have some sort of midi machine control you won't be able to control them via midi.

It may be useful at this stage to point out that midi does not carry audio information, or any sound at all. Midi is just control information such as what note was played, for how long and how hard it was hit etc. And information like what knob was turned and where it was turned to. The machine receiving this information translates this into relevant information be it a note on a synth or drum machine or as control information for a parameter in that machine.
