Long story short, PS3 has the flashing red light of death problem :) , I rang sony, and they said to bring it to xtravision (where it was bought), and gave me a reference number.

Was told they would replace it for €160. Anyone done this before? I know i'll find out when I go down there 2moro, but i'm the impatient type :)

How long have you the PS3 ?

Is it longer than the warranty ?

If so, apparently Sony do an additional extended warranty, which can be joined at any time & for €20-30 a year you get total coverage. Much cheaper if Xtra try to gouge you.

It's out of warranty, and is 2 1/2 years old.

Bloke on the phone said they'd just replace it?? I'm sorting this for my brother, so i'm not a technical whizz, but I won't be shelling out any extra cash to xtravision.

ya i had blu ray of death, rang sony, they said same bring it back to xtrav get ref number, did all that i had a new ps3 in 2 days for free, i was in warranty tho
but i'd say to you give http://consolerepairsireland.ie/ an email, they operate on a no fix no fee basis, and will gladly give you a quote for repair, with all work guaranteed i have used them, excellent, and i'm not affiliated with them in any way

I emailed sony when my PS3 stopped reading discs and told them they replaced my brothers ps3 for 15euro (cost of courier) and how do i go about getting them to replace mine for the same.

Both ps3's were out of warranty and they emailed me a form i had to fill in and i had to arrange a pick up time for the courier. I rang them on the Thursday, they picked up the playstation from my house on the Friday. I had a brand new playstation delivered back to my house on the Tuesday.

Both of the ps3's were replaced for 15 euro each (about 6 months apart from each other). Great service.
