Can you zoom out a bit please so we can get a bigger picture? For example, what does your pal it the U.S. have at his/her disposal? A mobile phone? If so, U.S. or Irish? A landline? Internet access or not? You mention an Irish number. What is this Irish number? Is it a mobile number? A non-geo number? A SIP URI?

You wont be able to call either their us cell or irish mobile without it costing them, using skype wont make a difference. Only thing u could do is call their computer with skype or wait for them to top up their us cell

She has an Irish and a US mobile, and limited access to a landline or the internet so really calling a mobile is the only option. The Irish number is a mobile, vodafone. If its correct that it makes no difference to save money by calling either of the mobiles via skype, what would be the mobile charges she incurs if I choose to call her from skype regardless. What would be the cheapest way to call given all the details of the situation?

    Hi Fez22,

OK understood. The Irish mobile is out, way too-expensive. The U.S. mobile is a different matter however. As you probably know, the general rule is that incoming calls to mobile phones are not free in the U.S. , but there are exceptions to this.

Carriers such as t-mobile and sprint have certain PAYG plans that do include a fixed number of free incoming calls or minutes. If your friend can check locally with what's on offer she may find one that fits the bill.

On your end in Ireland, any number in the U.S. , be it fixed landline or mobile, carries the same cost on SkypeOut, what is it 1.9c or something close.

If nothing pans out, she might be better off just getting a calling card and have her call you. That's dirt cheap.

    HTH
