Cycle Race

    Hi...
    I am thinking about cycling in an upcoming cycle race, i amnt part of any club and have a leisure cycling license from cyclingireland... my usually wear the astana or the anpost team kit. guess my questions are how can i get the 1 day licence? and do i have to get plain cycling gear as i amnt in a club?

    You can buy a one day racing license at sign on. You'll more than likely have to pay a deposit for a race number too.

    I have seen the odd person wear pro kit at open races, but it is against the rules, so the organisers could insist you don't wear it if they want to.

    An Post gear wouldn't be a good idea since An Post riders can and do appear at races here. Also Astana gear is very similar to South Dublin's.

    As far as I am aware you can only wear team kit of a team you are on although I am not sure how utterly strictly that is enforced. 1 day license you can take out at registration just before the start but if you are talking about open races a club league is arguably a much better place to start. Do you have experience cycling in a tight bunch?

    This is pretty good advice. A club league is a more hospitable environment for beginners. I do know one guy though who started racing this year and jumped straight into open races and managed quite well, but he'd be more the exception than the rule.

    hea thanks for the replys, am ok cycling in a tight bunch and cycle 200k+ a week so hopefully i should be fit enough.., the cycle race i am on about is the drum cup in kerrym not too sure weater its part of the club league or not...

    Beware of the SPEED.......Might get caught out on that front if its your first race...Good Luck anyway
