Garmin Ant agent

How exactly is it supposed to work? Whats the procedure?

Any time I come in for a run I usually place my watch beside the computer then plug in the USB, usually nothing happens. It normally takes a bit of fiddling pressing buttons on the watch and plugging in and out of the USb key to get it to recognise the watch.

Does anybody else have this problem? Is there a specific procedure to follow to get it to recognise the watch right away?

It is still playing silly buggers for me to get it to upload immediately most of the time.

If I have recently rebooted and not done an upload since then it just uploads imediatley once I get near the laptop. After that though it will not upload. The ANT agent keeps on changing to having the red line through it and when I come near it with a new workout ready to upload it breifly connects and then gives up before actually transfering.

I then stop the ANT agent and pull out the USB, plug back in the USB and restart the ANT agent and it then uploads perfectly fine. I can never upload two times in a row without having rebooted the PC or pulled out and restarted the agent software though.

It seems to work ok on the 405. You do typically see a few errors before the transfer works, but at least there is no fiddling with cables.

Probably asking the obvious but do you have auto transfer selected? I have never had an issue uploading. when I get to my PC I just plug in the ANT stick and the data automatically uploads from the watch (FR 405).

That may be the difference. I too don't keep the ANT stick plugged in to the USB port (I use a laptop). So I only plug in the USB ant stick and run the ANT agent after I've completed a run. Never had any problems. Maybe if you keep it plugged in all of the time with the ANT agent running, you run into problems. It's pretty buggy software tbh.

Have it all setup for automajic xfer. I leave the USB stick in all the time though and it does work fine from the 405 on the first time after a reboot, however long before that was, just not the second attempt unless I pull the stick out first.

I never have a problem and this is what I do, come in after a run, plug in usb, it uploads very quickly but then when finished I right click the ant agent icon(bottom right of the screen) and exit. Then I eject tha usb. Maybe give that a try.

Yeah its awkward enough although I found the recent Garmin interface / software upgrades have helped things a lot. If a recent run won't upload I generally plug it out, do a quick stop / start / reset to put another run in it and then plug in, usually works.

The recent versions seem a lot less buggy, if you havent updated to the latest then do so.
I leave this pc running all the time with the usb stick plugged in the front constantly and as soon as i enter the room after a run its already automagicially updating.
it was buggy as heck in earlier versions and drove me crazy, but happy to say not anymore.

If you paired the watch before with another computer it will switch pairing off and you wont see anything in the ant agent, you need to go to the settings on the watch and turn pairing on..that drove me bonkers for a few days after a Vista reinstall and i couldn't figure out why the hell the agent didn't detect it anymore!
