How many holes/rounds do you expect to get out of a Pro V1 these days? Barring thinning the ball or hitting a road obviously.

I'd only really play one round with a Pro V1. After that it usually would only be used during practice rounds or I put it in the practice bag. I always start each competitive round with a new ball.

I start every competitive round with a new one, and never use new ones in practice. Imo the scuff marks from the likes of Vokey SM wedges or bunker shots do affect the flight and distance. Actually, given the time of year I've been playing a lot of golf that's 'important' by my own modest standards. Junior and Barton Cup etc. And I've found that in such rounds I'm not even getting 18 holes out of every ball. A long bunker shot or thin iron and, on a day where i deem it worth it not leaving anything to chance, I have been changing the ball after 12 or 13 holes. Not all the time but sometimes.

Sure, some people will scoff at this but in truth, I make enough off the 2s competition to keep me in 'free' prov1s and to my mind, it makes less sense spending 250e on a driver, then hitting a possibly dodgy ball with it down an important stretch of holes for the sake of a fiver! ;)
