Supposedly finishing up in a couple of weeks but it has been touted that they may ask me to stay on for another week or 2 due to people missing.

My question is if if I am asked to stay on do I tell them yes but I want an nice little incentive in order to do so? Or are my just being greedy?

Should add I am not getting any redunancy as not long in the door.

Sorry to hear you are being let go, especially with no redundancy coming to you. However to be honest I wouldn't ask for an incentive, the reason you are going is they probably can't afford all their staff so how could they pay you something more for the extra week? Also you want to maintain good relationships for future jobs, what if your next employer rings them for a reference and finds out what you did?

    Best of luck,

They can well afford to pay staff and I wouldn't do it if they were letting a lot go, I am just the unlucky one... :(

And no, you are not being greedy. What have you got to lose? The worst they can say is no.

    Go for it, I say.

So, I have been asked to stay on another month. I said ok and got all that I asked for. Now they tell me I could that could be another month maybe even 2 months. I am very happy to stay a month but any longer I just feel like they are starting to use me. We dont want you but hang on... we want you as long as we need you!! Are my wrong to feel a bit angry?

I would be angry too, now they've turned you into a skilled temp and can let you go at any time without notice. But then again, it's money.
    Did the contract change?

Ya the money part... The contract has not changed but I asked for an incentive and was told something may be sorted when I leave! I looked for a number of days off and got them too. So they are giving me all that I asked.

Deep down I feel very angry and really feel that in a month I should go.

    Angry at what?

All jobs are like that, keep you so long as they need you :)

Just make sure that if you are kept on permanently that this whole period is still classed and not seen as a break in your service.
You might work long enough now to get redundancy

Oh and be thankful you have a job. Alot of people would love to have even 2-3 months work. You're employer knows this too.

Being told that I was not what they expected and having given the job everything and sacrificed a lot. Then, to be told would you mind just filling a gap for us now!!

My probation got extended as again I was not what they expected!! So they told me I was going in my last probation meeting. I am not a permanent member of staff now!

I know people would and so does my employer. Playing a little on that I think they are..

You never said they were letting you go because you are not what they expected.

They can't just extend it without good reason. You were not what they expected? Very vague assesment. Can you give some more details. If they didn't give you more detail, you should be angry at yourself for not asking. How can you improve your work, if they don't tell you were they think you are failing/lagging.

Probationary contracts can only go on for a maximum of 12 months. If your employer was to extend your probabtion, it would have to be in writing. If you are working there more than a year, you are in full employment. You should give us all the details. How long you are working would help :)

I know people would and so does my employer. Playing a little on that I think they are..

Exactly my point, you should be happy you are still working. Maybe it's time to not take it personally, try think along there lines, it's only business (unfortunatley it's not that easy)

I think you are already angry about it. No need to asks us guys is it ok to be angry :) I'd be miffed aswell if my work extended my probabtion. But seems to me like they never wanted you full time.

I think you should take anything you can get and hold on in there.
Something could change over those few weeks.
    Don't burn any bridges.

Working for someone is a business. It is an exchange, a trade.

You are letting your feelings get in the way of that business. I wouldn't let the feelings get in the way. You just have to decide whether it is worth working for them for the money they are offering.

Never mind what they are saying! Look at how they are paying you!

I know a guy who was made redundant last April He has been working for the same firm on contract until last week. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

I was told my performance needed to be upped hence the reason for the probation extension. What did I do, up my perfomance and really worked hard and gave it my all. Probation meeting comes along and then told it was not enough... !!

Take the point on board about it being business. Something to ponder.
